Jarred Cosart will make his Marlins' debut on Friday against the Reds.

He'll take the spot of Jacob Turner, who is presumably headed to the bullpen. Acquire via trade from the Astros on Thursday, Cosart holds a 4.41 ERA with just 75 strikeouts over 116 1/3 innings this season. He's not really an option in mixed leagues.

Nationals manager Matt Williams said Thursday that the newly acquired Asdrubal Cabrera will receive the "majority" of the starts at second base.

That means the bench for Danny Espinosa, who offers excellent defense but is hitting just .221/.287/.354 this season. Anthony Rendon will continue to hold down the fort at third base with Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) out indefinitely. Cabrera, who hasn’t played second base since 2009, has nine homers and 40 RBI this season but is batting only .246/.305/.386 overall. He's not much of a fantasy option in mixed leagues.

Mariners outfield prospect Alex Jackson (facial fracture) is on track to return to the team's Arizona League club in mid-August.

Jackson suffered a broken bone in his left cheek last month when he was struck by a flyball after losing it in the lights. "About 10 days," general manager Jack Zduriencik said Thursday. "He wants to go now." Jackson, the No. 6 pick in June's draft, was batting .289 with two homers and 15 RBI in 20 games before the injury.

Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox have promoted pitching prospect Henry Owens to Triple-A Pawtucket.

He's filling the rotation spot vacated by Anthony Ranaudo, who will make his major league debut on Friday. Boston's top pitching prospect, Owens earned the promotion by posting a 2.60 ERA with a 126/47 K/BB ratio over 121 innings. It's possible that he'll get a cup of coffee next month if things go well at Pawtucket.

Eric Hosmer (hand) could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

The initial timetable floated was four weeks, but apparently Hosmer could be on the shelf even longer than that. The first baseman is dealing with a stress fracture in his right hand, an ailment that he originally suffered over a week ago but played with after initial X-rays didn't find anything. The Royals will go with a combination of Billy Butler and Raul Ibanez at first base while Hosmer is sidelined.

Brad Peacock will rejoin the Astros' rotation following the trade of Jarred Cosart.

Peacock holds a 4.93 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP over 87 2/3 innings this season and allowed seven runs across 3 2/3 frames in his last start. It's not clear when his next start will be, but he can safely be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Tyler Skaggs (forearm) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Skaggs' elbow ligament is fine and the Angels are confident his forearm tightness is a minor issues, but they don't want to take any chances. He'll undergo an MRI Friday before the Halos officially make a decision. "The doctor said the UCL [ulnar collateral ligament] is fine," Skaggs said. "At the moment, it’s not looking bad. I have full range of motion, and the tests went well. We’ll see tomorrow, though. It’s not feeling too bad right now."

Jordan Pacheco and Cliff Pennington (thumb) are expected to share time at third base for the Diamondbacks following the trade of Martin Prado.

Pennington is still on the disabled list but is expected back soon. Pacheco, though, is the one out of the two that could have a bit of fantasy value. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his first start at third base Thursday and hit .309/.341/.421 in his rookie season a couple years ago with the Rockies. Andy Marte hit a pinch-hit homer Thursday and could also get a shot at the hot corner, but for now it appears a Pacheco/Pennington timeshare is on the docket.
