Mariners recalled INF Carlos Triunfel from Triple-A Tacoma.

He'll replace Robert Andino, who has been designated for assignment. Triunfel, 23, was batting .300/.351/.476 with four home runs, 19 RBI, four stolen bases, and an .828 OPS over 44 games this season in Triple-A. He's not worth considering in most fantasy leagues.

Kevin Youkilis (back) will play in an extended spring training game Saturday.

Mark Teixeira is also slated to play as he works his way back from a wrist injury. Youkilis has been sidelined for nearly a month with a lumbar spine strain, but he could rejoin the Yankees late next week if he can avoid setbacks.
May 24 - 5:24 PM

Pablo Sandoval (illness) is back in Friday's lineup.

Sandoval didn't start Wednesday due to illness, but grounded out in a pinch hit appearance. He should be fine moving forward.

Padres recalled LHP Tom Layne from Triple-A Tucson.

Layne, 28, had a 4.00 ERA and 13/12 K/BB ratio in 18 innings over 19 appearances this season in Triple-A. He'll operate in middle relief.
May 24 - 5:19 PM

Jed Lowrie (foot) is out of the Athletics' lineup again Friday.

Lowrie hasn't played since he was hit in the right foot by Yu Darvish on Tuesday. X-rays came back negative, but he's still dealing with some soreness. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) expects to play rehab games with Double-A Trenton next Wednesday and Thursday.

Teixeira has participated in simulated games this week and will test himself in extended spring training on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. He'll be reevaluated after his two rehab games with Trenton, but there's a chance that he could be activated from the disabled list late next week if all goes well. Teixeira has been sidelined since early March with a torn tendon sheath in his wrist.
May 24 - 5:11 PM

Orioles released LHP Zach Braddock.

Braddock signed a minor league deal with the Orioles over the winter, but was on the disabled list with Triple-A Norfolk and never appeared in a game. The 25-year-old left-hander underwent surgery last July to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.
May 24 - 5:09 PM

Justin Maxwell (hand) expects to begin a minor league rehab assignment next Wednesday with Class A Quad Cities.

Maxwell, who fractured his left hand on month ago, took 20 swings in the cage on Friday without discomfort. He's likely looking at a return in early June.
