Cubs recalled RHP Yoervis Medina from Triple-A Iowa.

Medina was just sent down Tuesday, but he's now back to take Neil Ramirez's (side) roster spot. He has allowed seven runs over his last two relief appearances.

Cubs optioned RHP Dallas Beeler to Triple-A Iowa.

Beeler was terrible again in a spot start Tuesday, yielding four runs over 1 1/3 innings. It seems unlikely that the Cubs will give him any more starts this season.
Jul 29 - 11:06 AM

Cubs placed RHP Neil Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 26, with left side soreness.

The feeling had been that Ramirez was having more shoulder issues, but apparently it was more of an oblique problem. Either way, he's going to be out for a while.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press hears that the White Sox will be buyers at the trade deadline.

This comes on the heels of FOX Sports' Jon Morosi saying that he thinks it's likelier that the Tigers trade David Price than the White Sox trade Jeff Samardzija. Chicago has won six straight to creep back into the Wild Card race and it appears they'll be content with a compensation pick for Samardzija rather than a package of prospects.

Miguel Rojas (shoulder) has been cleared to return to action.

Rojas suffered a right shoulder sprain last Friday, but he's obviously made progress since then. He'll operate as a utility infielder.

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) remains shut down at Triple-A New Orleans.

Cosart had a recurrence of vertigo earlier this month and it's unclear when he'll be ready to return to the mound. "He actually is having one final evaluation and then the medication will begin," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said. "Hopefully they've now identified everything that was causing the situation."
Jul 29 - 10:39 AM

Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has been cleared to swing off a tee.

He's been taking dry swings for a week and is ready to take the next step. While manager Dan Jennings wouldn't offer a firm timetable on when Stanton will return, he didn't rule out the slugger being activated at some point next week. "His hand looks good," Jennings said. "It's healed. The scar looks well. Now he's going to start off the tee and into flips. He'll progress at his timetable. It's good to see him making strides the right way."
Jul 29 - 10:37 AM

Collin Cowgill (wrist) took batting practice Tuesday.

It's the first time he's done so since being shut down with a nagging right wrist injury. While Cowgill appears to finally be making progress, he might not have a role with the Angels any longer.
