Yovani Gallardo will start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
The Rangers are moving him up a day so he can start twice before the All-Star break. With Gallardo starting next Sunday, it's unlikely he'll be picked for the All-Star Game. The right-hander hasn't allowed a run in his last 29 1/3 innings and now owns the American League's fifth-lowest ERA at 2.56.
Delino Deshields (hamstring) will be reevaluated after Saturday's workout.
Deshields recently wrapped up a six-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock and is close to 100 percent. He should be activated from the disabled list in the next day or two. Texas has a crowded outfield now with Josh Hamilton, Leonys Martin and Shin-Soo Choo all seeing regular at-bats. Deshields had 13 steals in 48 games before his injury.
Diamondbacks transferred C Tuffy Gosewisch to the 60-day disabled list.
Gosewisch suffered a torn ACL in late May and is out for the season. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Oscar Hernandez will handle the catching duties with Gosewisch sidelined.
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Matt Stites to Triple-A Reno.
Stites' stint with Arizona was short and sweet. He allowed one hit over two scoreless outings, throwing a combined 18 pitches in 1 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander missed the first two months of the season with a strained right flexor tendon. He'll be back with Arizona as soon as a roster spot opens up.
Diamondbacks optioned 1B/OF Danny Dorn to Triple-A Reno.
The D'Backs needed to clear space for Patrick Corbin and Oscar Hernandez, who are both coming off the 60-day DL. Dorn has just five hits in 29 at-bats for the big club this year. He'll get another shot when the rosters expand in September, if not sooner.
Diamondbacks activated LHP Patrick Corbin (elbow) from the 60-day disabled list.
Corbin didn't pitch past the sixth inning in any of his rehab starts and we wouldn't expect him to Saturday against the Rockies. The 25-year-old was an All-Star in 2013 but struggled down the stretch with a 5.19 ERA over his last 13 starts. Fantasy owners should use a wait and see approach with the young left-hander.
Diamondbacks activated C Oscar Hernandez (hand) from the 60-day disabled list.
Hernandez sat out three months with a broken hamate bone in his left hand. Manager Chip Hale said he'll "pick his spots" when inserting Hernandez into the lineup. He'll backup Jarrod Saltalamacchia Saturday against the Rockies.
Carlos Gonzalez is not in the Rockies' lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Patrick Corbin is pitching for Arizona and Gonzalez is batting just .161 against left-handers this year. Drew Stubbs will start in left field and bat sixth. Since blowing up for five hits against San Francisco on June 27, Gonzalez has gone just 3-for-28 with six strikeouts.
