Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) could potentially return from the disabled list when first eligible on May 19.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that an MRI revealed a "one-plus" grade right hamstring strain for A-Rod, so it was good news all things considered. The club figures to have a better idea by next week whether Rodriguez returning in mid-May is realistic.

Ivan Nova will take CC Sabathia's (groin) spot in the Yankees' rotation.

Sabathia is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks. Nova has put up a 5.14 ERA over six relief appearances this season. He'll likely only be able to go about five innings in his first outing, but it shouldn't be a big deal getting him stretched out.

Homer Bailey (elbow) has resumed a throwing program.

Bailey was shut down for a little less than a week after not recovering well from his most recent rehab starts. He's only playing catch now and it will probably be a little while before he's game-ready again.

Pirates activated INF Jung Ho Kang from the 15-day disabled list.

Kang has completed his rehab from a nasty leg injury from last September that resulted in a torn meniscus and fractured tibia. He's starting at third base and batting sixth against the Cardinals on Friday, although he's only expected to start two out of every three games initially. David Freese will see a drop in playing time with Kang back.

Rangers recalled RHP Anthony Ranaudo from Triple-A Round Rock.

Ranaudo holds a 2.02 ERA and 18/4 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 frames at Round Rock this season. He'll work in long relief.

Rangers optioned RHP Phil Klein to Triple-A Round Rock.

Klein has posted a 5.19 ERA over eight appearances for the Rangers this season. Anthony Ranaudo is replacing him in the Rangers' bullpen.
