When asked if it was realistic to expect David Wright (shoulder) back this year, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said, "He certainly thinks it is."

Cam Bedrosian netted his sixth save of the season on Wednesday afternoon against the Nationals.

Bedrosian issued a leadoff walk to Michael Taylor but retired the next three batters with relative ease. He has earned three saves in the last six days and may suddenly be the guy to own in the Angels' bullpen, though Kenyan Middleton, Blake Parker, and Yusmeiro Petit are still seemingly in the ninth-inning mix. Bud Norris' last save came on August 4.

Padres released OF Collin Cowgill.

Cowgill was batting just .235/.297/.390 across 220 plate appearances this season with Triple-A El Paso. The 31-year-old outfielder is a .234/.297/.329 career hitter at the major league level.

Ben Zobrist (neck) is back in the Cubs' lineup on Wednesday night against the Reds.

Zobrist was held out of the starting lineup Tuesday due to a stiff neck, but he came off the bench and drove in the Cubs' only run with a pinch-hit RBI single. He will start at second base and bat leadoff Wednesday versus Cincinnati right-hander Homer Bailey.

White Sox released INF/OF Grant Green.

Green, who signed a minor league contract with Chicago on June 21, was batting just .211/.287/.322 in 101 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. The former top-100 prospect will try to latch on with a new organization.

Wilson Ramos is not in the Rays' starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Ramos homered for the second straight game Tuesday, but he'll take a seat versus Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman. Jesus Sucre is starting at catcher and batting ninth. Lucas Duda will DH and bat second.
Aug 16 - 3:52 PM

Steven Souza is out of the Rays' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Mallex Smith will play right field and hit eighth versus Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman. This appears to be a routine breather for Souza.
Aug 16 - 3:50 PM

Reds signed OF Adam Brett Walker to a minor league contract.

He has already joined up with Triple-A Louisville. Walker, a former third-round pick of the Twins, owns an underwhelming .217/.274/.427 batting line in 167 games at the Triple-A level.
