Hector Santiago pitched a pair of scoreless innings on Thursday against the Brewers.

Santiago allowed a single and a walk while striking out one in the effort. The lefty was reasonably productive across 24 starts and six relief appearances, finishing with a 3.75 ERA and a 108/53 K/BB ratio last season. Santiago is expected to pitch out of the Angels' rotation to start the season.

Hunter Pence will be sidelined 6-8 weeks after an X-ray confirmed he has a non-displaced fracture in his left forearm.

Mar 5 - 7:07 PM

Kyle Lohse allowed a run in 2 2/3 innings in Thursday's Cactus League start against the Angels.

Lohse allowed a lead-off double to C.J. Cron to lead off the third, then got two consecutive outs before being pulled. Ariel Pena inherited Lohse's runner and allowed him to score. Overall, Lohse allowed just the one hit while striking out three. The right-hander is now 36 years old but hasn't shown any signs of slowing down yet.
Mar 5 - 7:06 PM

Bruce Chen pitched two perfect innings in the Indians' 9-3 win against the Reds on Thursday.

Chen, vying for a big league role with the Indians, whiffed three batters in the process. The 37-year-old left-hander posted a 7.45 ERA in 48 1/3 innings for the Royals last year before he was released. It isn't very likely he makes the Opening Day roster, but a productive spring could lead to something later in the season.
Mar 5 - 6:59 PM

Aroldis Chapman recorded all three outs on strikeouts Thursday against the Indians.

Chapman issued a leadoff walk to Jerry Sands before fanning Michael Martinez, Jose Ramirez, and Yan Gomes in succession. Just another day of work for the left-hander, who fanned 106 batters in 54 innings last season. He also finished with a 2.00 ERA and 36 saves. Few relievers are expected to be better than Chapman going into the 2015 season.
Mar 5 - 6:53 PM

Johnny Cueto fired two scoreless innings on Thursday but the Reds lost to the Indians.

Cueto allowed one hit and struck out a pair of batters in the effort. The right-hander finished as a runner-up to Clayton Kershaw in NL Cy Young balloting thanks to his 2.25 ERA and 242/65 K/BB ratio in 243 2/3 innings. Though he isn't likely to match those numbers again in 2015, he should still rank among the league's best pitchers once again. As Cueto can become a free agent after the season, the Reds may trade him by the July 31 deadline.
Mar 5 - 6:51 PM

Yan Gomes went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the Indians' win over the Reds Thursday.

Gomes took Burke Badenhop deep in the fifth inning, capping off a five-run frame for the Tribe. The 25-year-old backstop is coming off of a very productive 2014 campaign, his first as an everyday player, and should be counted on for similar numbers going into 2015.
Mar 5 - 6:48 PM

Ian Kennedy allowed two runs in two innings Thursday as the Padres fell 9-4 to the Mariners.

Robinson Cano doubled, then Nelson Cruz homered in the third inning. Overall, Kennedy allowed three hits and a walk while striking out two. The right-hander was productive over 201 innings last season, finsihing with a 3.63 ERA and a 207/70 K/BB ratio.
