Giants released LHP Dontrelle Willis.

Willis suffered an arm injury during Sunday's game with Triple-A Fresno, holding his left elbow as he walked off the field. It was obviously a serious injury, because the Giants released him on Wednesday. This may be the end for the 32-year-old.

Rafael Soriano earned his third save of the season with a perfect ninth inning as the Nationals defeated the Marlins 6-3 on Wednesday.

With concerns about Soriano's age and declining velocity surrounding him entering the season, the right-hander has been lights out in the early going. In six innings, Soriano has struck out 10, walked none, and completed all three of his save chances.
Apr 16 - 10:12 PM

Jose Fernandez allowed three runs (none earned) in seven innings, taking home the no decision as the Marlins lost to the Nationals on Wednesday.

Fernandez allowed four hits, walked none, and struck out 10. The only blemish came on Jayson Werth's game-tying three-run home run in the sixth inning, which was set up by catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia's throwing error. As all three runs were unearned, Fernandez lowered his ERA to 2.66. He now has 33 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings. Fernandez will face the Braves in his next start.
Apr 16 - 10:10 PM

Tanner Roark allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings during Wednesday's start as the Nationals defeated the Marlins.

Roark allowed seven hits and walked two while striking out five. His only egregious error came in the fourth inning when Derek Dietrich hit a three-run home run to break a scoreless tie. Roark will face the Angels in his next start.
Apr 16 - 10:07 PM

Zach Walters broke a 3-3 tie with a pinch-hit solo home run as the Nationals defeated the Marlins on Wednesday.

Walters, pinch-hitting in the pitcher's spot, took reliever Mike Dunn out to left field to put the Nationals up 4-3 in the eighth inning. Walters was recently promoted after Ryan Zimmerman suffered a thumb injury, and has homered in each of his last two games.
Apr 16 - 10:05 PM

Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a double as the Marlins lost to the Nationals on Wednesday.

Ozuna's average rises to .339 on the heels of Tuesday's four-hit performance. He has hit safely in 13 of his 15 games to start the season, and five of his 20 hits have gone for extra bases.
Apr 16 - 10:03 PM

Derek Dietrich went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run as the Marlins lost to the Nationals on Wednesday.

Dietrich accounted for all of the Marlins' offense, taking Tanner Roark deep in the bottom of the fourth inning, his third homer of the season. With Rafael Furcal making progress, Dietrich's playing time could soon be significantly reduced. He'll have to keep hitting to make the Marlins reconsider.
Apr 16 - 9:59 PM

Jayson Werth went 1-for-4 with a game-tying three-run home run as the Nationals toppsed the Marlins on Wednesday.

Werth's third blast of the season knotted the game up at three apiece in the sixth inning, victimizing starter Jose Fernandez. The right fielder was in the midst of a small slump entering the game, but is still hitting .308 and now has 11 RBI.
