Nolan Reimold (calf) could be activated from the disabled list next week.

Reimold has been out since mid-July with a left calf strain, but it sounds like the oft-injured outfield could be back around the time he's eligible. He had four hits in 12 at-bats for the Jays before going on the DL.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Blue Jays think Edwin Encarnacion (quad) could be activated from the disabled list next week.

Encarnacion resumed taking batting practice and fielding ground balls this week and evidently did it with no complications. The slugger has been on the shelf since early July with a strained right quad but is poised to rejoin the Blue Jays' lineup soon as the club continues a playoff push.

Eric Hosmer is back in the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

Manager Ned Yost had indicated a desire to sit Hosmer until at least Thursday, but the first baseman has evidently talked his way back into the lineup a day early. Hosmer missed two games due to a bruised right hand, an ailment that was a result of a hit by pitch Sunday.

Rafael Furcal (hamstring) has yet to resume baseball activities.

Furcal has been on the shelf since mid-June following another hamstring injury. The veteran infielder is no safe bet to return at all this season.

Derek Dietrich (wrist) has yet to resume baseball activities.

Dietrich has already missed three weeks with a strained right wrist and obviously he's not close to returning. The Marlins have been going with Jordany Valdespin at second base with both Dietrich and Rafael Furcal (hamstring) out.

Kevin Gregg (elbow) has yet to resume throwing.

Gregg is eligible to return early next week but isn't expected to be ready at that time. The veteran reliever was placed on the disabled list shortly after the All-Star break with soreness in his pitching elbow.

Scooter Gennett (quad) is not in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday.

Gennett exited Tuesday's game against the Reds with right quad tightness. There's been no indication to this point that a stint on the disabled list might be required, but he could need a few more days to recover. Rickie Weeks is getting a rare start versus a right-hander Wednesday.

Ryan Hanigan (oblique) has resumed throwing but has yet to do any rotational work.

Players are usually about 10 days away from returning from an oblique injury once they do begin rotational work, so it appears Hanigan won't be back before the end of the month. The Rays will continue to use Jose Molina as their primary catcher while Hanigan is on the shelf.
