Collin McHugh (arm) is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Monday against the Cardinals.

The veteran right-hander has been fighting through a "dead arm" phase and has only pitched in minor league games so far. He's expected to begin the season with a short stint on the disabled list before joining the Astros' rotation.

While the Red Sox believe that Tyler Thornburg (arm) will be ready for Opening Day, he'll be eased into the primary setup role in front of closer Craig Kimbrel.

Thornburg looked good in a minor league game on Friday and there's growing optimism about his status for the start of the regular season. It sounds like he'll begin the year in lower leverage situations though until he shows that he's fully back to form. In that case, Joe Kelly would likely function in the eighth inning role.

David Price (elbow) has shown improved strength and resumed throwing on Saturday with a short game of catch.

It's a small step, but one in the right-direction nonetheless. There remains no clear timetable for Price's return to the Red Sox but he'll certainly begin the season on the disabled list.

Yadier Molina said Saturday that he will not discuss a contract extension during the upcoming season.

He's open to discussion in the final week of spring training, just doesn't want it to carry over as a distraction in the regular season. His preference is to remain with the Cardinals, but the veteran backstop is also intrigued at the idea of free agency.

Colby Rasmus (hip) said Saturday that he expects to open the season on the disabled list.

The veteran outfielder, who has been serving as the designated hitter in Grapefruit League play, said he isn't yet comfortable playing in the outfield and that manager Kevin Cash said that's a prerequisite for making the active roster. Even if he starts the season on the DL, it should only be for a week or two.

Astros released LHP C.J. Riefenhauser.

The 27-year-old southpaw wasn't going to crack the Opening Day bullpen, so releasing him now gives him time to potentially find another job before the start of the season. Riefenhauser posted a 2.35 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 5/7 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings in Cactus League play.
Mar 25 - 9:15 AM

Carlos Correa is not in the Astros starting lineup on Saturday due to illness.

The Astros are rolling out a lineup that looks similar to one they could field on Opening Day, minus Correa who's feeling a little under the weather. Expect him to return to game action in a day or two.
Mar 25 - 9:02 AM

According to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, Jesse Chavez has secured a spot in the Angels' Opening Day rotation.

The right-hander has pitched decently in Cactus League play, compiling a 4.32 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 8 1/3 innings. He joins Garrett Richards, Matt Shoemaker and Ricky Nolasco as locks to start the season in the rotation, while the fifth spot could be a revolving door until Tyler Skaggs is ready.
