Texans owner Bob McNair is adamant that the team must improve at quarterback.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict's three-game suspension for violating the league's policy on player safety has been upheld.

Burfict's ban was a candidate for reduction because it was so harsh, but the NFL has (rightfully) decided the punishment still fits the crime. Burfict was out of control late in the season, boiling over in a shameful display in the Wild Card round. He earned his ban the hard way. Absent a Bengals bye, he'll return in Week 4.

The Tennessean's John Glennon said it is "hard to imagine" Titans DE Ropati Pitoitua back with the team in 2016.

Owed a $3 million salary and set to count $3.8 million against the cap, Pitoitua played just 30 snaps last season. Tennessee does not need the cap space, but it does not make much sense to keep a high-priced player who cannot even crack the defensive line rotation. With Jurrell Casey and DaQuan Jones at defensive end, the Titans have underrated talent along the defensive line.

Giants hired Martin Mayhew as director of football operations/special projects.

Mayhew served as the Lions general manager for eight seasons before being fired last November. He was passed over for the Titans and Browns general manager jobs this offseason. The Giants are attempting to rebuild their personnel department after fielding one of the worst rosters in the league last season.

ESPN's James Walker and Coley Harvey report Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict will meet with Roger Goodell within the next week to discuss his three-game suspension.

Burfict earned the well-deserved ban for multiple questionable hits in the Wild Card loss to the Steelers including a personal foul against Antonio Brown which cost the Bengals the game. Burfict will likely be angling for a reduction to the suspension during the meeting. Considering his reckless history, a reduction seems unlikely.

CSN New England's Tom E. Curran believes Patriots MLB Jerod Mayo (torn pec) is "likely" to be a cap cut.

Mayo, 30, has ended three of the last four seasons on injured reserve. With Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins set to land big extensions in the near future, it does not make much sense to keep Mayo on the books. Mayo is owed a $4.5 million roster bonus March 9. He will likely be released before then.

Texans LT Duane Brown said he is "coming along great" in his rehab from surgery to repair a torn quad.

"Off of crutches, which is a big step for me. It’s healing pretty well," Brown said. "I’m pretty amazed at the recovery I’ve had so far." Brown suffered the injury Week 17 and had surgery the next week. His absence played a big role in the Texans' offensive struggles in the Wild Card loss to the Chiefs. Brown could be limited during the offseason program, but he should be 100 percent by training camp.

ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold expects Denver to use the franchise tag on Von Miller before working out a long-term deal.

Broncos GM John Elway has used the franchise tag three times in the last four years, most recently with Demaryius Thomas last offseason. The team and player worked out a long-term deal in each of those cases. Legwold expects Miller's negotiation to follow the same path. Miller should expect a deal in excess of the six-year, $101 million contract Justin Houston signed last summer.
