Antonio Brown has restructured his contract.
As have Heath Miller and Shaun Suisham, clearing $6 million in cap space for the ever-needy Steelers. Brown has agreed to convert $2 million of his $8.25 million 2016 salary into a signing bonus that can be prorated over the next two years. Looking ahead, Brown might seriously consider a holdout next summer if the Steelers don't extend his team-friendly deal heading into his walk year.
Seantrel Henderson has won the Bills' right tackle job.
Henderson is coming off a shaky rookie season, but quickly dispatched Cyrus Kouandijo in camp. OC Greg Roman believes Henderson has improved by "leaps and bounds." Henderson has elite physical tools, he just needs to translate them to NFL consistency.
Vikings C John Sullivan has been sidelined the last two weeks with back spasms.
The injury was not thought to be serious, but he now appears in danger of missing the regular season opener. He will definitely miss the fifth preseason game. Joe Berger has started the last two games in Sullivan's place.
Barring a "major upset," the Miami Herald expects LT Branden Albert (knee) to be ready for Week 1.
Plugged-in reporter Armando Salguero believes only a setback could hold Albert out of the Dolphins' opener. Hi reports comes only three days after an equally-trustworthy Adam Caplan reported Albert was unlikely to return before Week 3. Albert himself has been noncommittal on his status, but we'll lean toward him suiting up against the Redskins in Week 1.
Willie Colon has won the Jets' right guard job.
Colon has been far from impressive the past two seasons, but soundly beat out Brian Winters in camp. The Jets are hoping he'll be more effective another year removed from his torn biceps.
Jets placed DL Kevin Vickerson on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
Vickerson is just a situational run stopper, but the Jets could have used him as depth while Sheldon Richardson serves his four-game suspension. Now 32, Vickerson played only 175 for the Chiefs in 2015. He could eventually get cut loose with an injury settlement.
Texans coach Bill O'Brien expressed disappointment in the team's running game.
"I think our running game, at times, has been decent, but it’s too inconsistent," O'Brien said. " I think there have been times where we see glimpses of what it can be, but we’ve got to be a lot more consistent." Alfred Blue has averaged 4.8 yards per carry this preseason, but that average is inflated by a long run in the first game. Blue has averaged 2.75 yards per carry the last two games, and every other Texans back is under 3.5 YPC. Blue should handle the early-down work as long as Arian Foster is sidelined, but he is not a inspiring fantasy option.
Jets placed TE Jace Amaro (shoulder surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The 23-year-old tight end has a torn labrum. He suffered the injury in the Jets' preseason opener. It's a bitterly disappointing end to what needed to be a big season for a player who underwhelmed as a rookie. Now Amaro will enter his third camp next summer on the hot seat after being the No. 49 overall pick of last year's draft. Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Davis are the next men up on the depth chart. It's a sorry group. Amaro is an end-of-bench type in Dynasty leagues.
