Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a solo home run, accounting for all of the Tigers' offense in Monday's loss to the Rays.

Cespedes got the Tigers on the board with a solo home run off of Nate Karns in the seventh inning to make it 3-1, then added an RBI single in the eighth. The Tigers weren't doing much else offensively. Cespedes has put together a fine season, batting .287/.319/.492 with 16 home runs and 57 RBI. He could be wearing a new uniform by Saturday.

Curt Casali hit a pair of homers, helping the Rays take down the Tigers on Monday.

Casali put the Rays up 1-0 in the third inning with a solo home run off of Anibal Sanchez. He tacked on a two-run home run to push the Rays' lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth off of Bruce Rondon, finishing 3-for-4 on the night. The catcher has taken only 51 plate appearances, but has already gone deep five times while knocking in eight runs and posting a .261/.314/.652 batting line.

Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's game.

Cabrera played in his first rehab game with High-A Charlotte on Monday and evidently that's all he needed. The veteran shortstop will have missed just one day more than the minimum with a strained right hamstring.

Kevin Gausman took a no-decision, pitching 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Monday's 11-inning, 2-1 victory against the Braves.

It was a tight-knit pitcher's duel between Gausman and Alex Wood as neither team could score through eight innings. Gausman scattered six hits and a walk while striking out five. Now with four starts under his belt since being recalled, two have been great, one has been mediocre, and one has been awful, resulting in an overall 4.20 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 34/12 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings. Gausman matches up with the Tigers at home next.
Jul 27 - 10:42 PM

Alex Wood fired 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a no-decision as the Braves lost in 11 innings to the Orioles on Monday.

Wood dominated the Orioles, limiting them to three hits and a pair of walks while fanning seven. It certainly registers as one of his finest starts this season. The lefty has a 3.54 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and a 90/36 K/BB ratio over 119 1/3 innings. Wood will vie for his third consecutive win when he takes the mound in Philadelphia this weekend versus the Phillies.

Rays optioned INF Jake Elmore to Triple-A Durham.

Elmore has hit just .206/.263/.284 with the Rays this season. Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) will be activated Tuesday.
Jul 27 - 10:39 PM

Adonis Garcia hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, but the Braves lost in 11 frames to the Orioles on Monday.

Garcia finished 2-for-5 overall. His home run, off of Zach Britton, broke a scoreless tie and put the Braves in position to sneak away with a win but Jim Johnson blew the save in the bottom half of the inning. The 30-year-old Cuban has homered in back-to-back games.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals are "hottest" on Craig Kimbrel.

The Nats have also been linked to Aroldis Chapman, as they appear determined to land an elite closer despite Drew Storen's fine season. Rosenthal adds that the Padres asked for Trea Turner (who they traded to Washington over the winter) from the Nationals in trade talks but were told it wouldn't happen.
