Anthony Rendon (toe) was not in the Nationals' lineup for a seventh straight game Saturday, but manager Dave Martinez said he's available to pinch-hit.

That's an interesting revelation, since a pinch-hit appearance would reset the clock on any potential DL stint. What it says is, the team thinks he's close, despite having not played in the past week. Rendon fouled a ball off his toe in a game on April 13 but X-rays came back negative and he's been day to day ever since. The infielder is likely a day or two away from a return to the lineup.

Yonder Alonso went 2-for-3 and drilled a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Orioles.

He hit a long bomb to center field off Chris Tillman in the sixth inning. The nice day boosted the first baseman's batting average over the Mendoza Line, which is a step in the right direction for the Indians' struggling free agent signee. He is slashing .206/.286/.413 with four homers and 10 RBI through 18 games.

Blue Jays traded INF Jon Berti to the Indians for cash considerations.

Berti just signed a minor-league deal with the Jays this past January and had played in just four games for Triple-A Buffalo this season. He'll be organizational depth for the Tribe.

Jose Ramirez went 3-for-4 and clubbed a solo home run in Saturday's shutout win over the Orioles.

The bomb came off Orioles batting tee Chris Tillman in the sixth inning. Ramirez dug himself a deep hole in the first few weeks of the season and is still trying to climb out of it. He's turned things around of late and has his line up to .221/.338/.441 with five homers and nine RBI after nearly a month of action.

Manny Machado went 1-for-3 and worked a walk in Saturday's loss to the Indians.

The Orioles were completely shut down by Indians starter Mike Clevinger. Machado's single represented half of his team's hits for the afternoon. He is the only player in the O's lineup having a respectable season at this point. The impending free agent shortstop is slashing an excellent .337/.421/.639 with six homers and 15 RBI in 95 plate appearances.

An MRI on Trey Mancini's knee Saturday came back clean, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.

He'll miss a few games but the 26-year-old isn't expected to need a disabled list stint for the sore knee. Craig Gentry started in left field and batted leadoff Saturday, and will likely get the bulk of playing time in Mancini's absence.

Chris Tillman let in four runs in six innings and took a loss to the Indians on Saturday.

He got burned for three home runs -- all solo shots -- by Yan Gomes, Jose Ramirez and Yonder Alonso. He struck out five, walked one and yielded eight total hits. The fact that this was Tillman's best start of the season tells you all you need to know. His record falls to 0-4 with a 9.87 ERA and 2.37 WHIP. He has just eight strikeouts and 11 walks in 17 1/3 innings after four starts. One would think it could only get better from here but then we remember that he finished last year with a 7.84 ERA in 19 starts and five relief appearances.

Xander Bogaerts (ankle) will embark on a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.

If Tuesday and Wednesday's games go well, Bogaerts could be activated after Thursday's off day. He's been sidelined since April 9 with a small fracture in his left ankle, but the recovery has gone smoothly to this point. Brock Holt and Tzu-Wei Lin have filled in at shortstop in his absence.
