Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has been cleared to swing off a tee.

He's been taking dry swings for a week and is ready to take the next step. While manager Dan Jennings wouldn't offer a firm timetable on when Stanton will return, he didn't rule out the slugger being activated at some point next week. "His hand looks good," Jennings said. "It's healed. The scar looks well. Now he's going to start off the tee and into flips. He'll progress at his timetable. It's good to see him making strides the right way."

Collin Cowgill (wrist) took batting practice Tuesday.

It's the first time he's done so since being shut down with a nagging right wrist injury. While Cowgill appears to finally be making progress, he might not have a role with the Angels any longer.

Paco Rodriguez (elbow) has begun a light throwing program.

Rodriguez had surgery a month ago to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow. He's hoping to be back in September.

A.J. Ellis (knee) caught a bullpen session on Monday.

Ellis should be ready to go early next week when his 15 days are up. Austin Barnes will continue to back up Yasmani Grandal in the meantime.

George Springer will be examined within the next two weeks to see how his fractured right wrist is healing.

Springer has already missed four weeks of action and it sounds like he might be out longer than the six-week timetable that was given. The outfielder has been shagging flyballs and staying active, but he's "not doing anything really with his right hand," according to Astros manager A.J. Hinch.

Salvador Perez is not in the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

He's getting some rest with it being a day game after a night game. Drew Butera is catching in Perez's place.

Lorenzo Cain is not in the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

He's just getting some rest. Jarrod Dyson is in center field in Cain's place.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that Cole Hamels' no-trade clause "continues to be a roadblock" when it comes to the Red Sox trying to acquire him.

The Red Sox have often been connected to Hamels since last offseason, but Bradford says they "aren’t a likely landing spot" due to them being on the southpaw's no-trade list. The Astros have run into the same problem, as they've pursued Hamels heavily but it doesn't sound like the lefty wants to go there. The Dodgers and Rangers look like the favorites for Hamels at the moment.
