Justin Masterson gave up four runs and walked six in 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Rays.

Masterson had turned in three straight solid efforts, giving up six runs over 18 innings, but he completely lost the strike zone at times tonight and was lucky to last as long as he did. He and Joe Kelly are really neck-and-neck in the fierce competition to lose a spot in Boston's rotation.

Jason Grilli escaped a jam in the ninth inning for his ninth save as the Braves won 7-5 over the Phillies on Wednesday.

Grilli entered the ninth with a three-run lead, but issued a leadoff single to Ben Revere, then issued a two-out walk to Ryan Howard to bring the tying run to the plate in Darin Ruf. Ruf ripped a single to left center to bring in Revere, but Grilli recovered to strike out Odubel Herrera to end the game. Grilli is now 9-for-10 in save chances with an uninspiring 4.50 ERA and a 16/4 K/BB ratio in 10 innings.

Asdrubal Cabrera went 0-for-5 as the Rays' No. 7 hitter on Wednesday, dropping his average to .189.

He did hit the ball hard once, drilling on-deck batter Brandon Guyer in the forearm. Fortunately, Guyer was fine. Cabrera is not. He's been the Rays' biggest liability this season, and at some point, Kevin Cash needs to stop automatically running him out there. It's not like he makes up for his bat with defense.
May 6 - 10:38 PM

Mike Foltynewicz gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings but got the win on Wednesday versus the Phillies.

The Braves staked him to a 6-1 lead after a four-run fifth inning, but he gave three of them back before departing in the sixth. Overall, he allowed seven hits and walked three while striking out seven. Foltynewicz is 2-0, but the performance hasn't quite matched up with the results in his first two starts with the Braves. he has allowed seven runs (six earned) in 10 1/3 innings with a 9/6 K/BB ratio. He'll look for improvement as he takes on the Reds in Cincinnati next.
May 6 - 10:37 PM

Jerome Williams got the loss on Wednesday against the Braves, yielding six runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Williams was decent up until the fifth inning when the Braves pounded out four runs to end his evening. Overall, he gave up eight hits, walked none, and struck out three. Despite the outing, Williams has mostly done a good job for the Phillies, but he carries an ugly 5.18 ERA with a 1.61 WHIP and a 20/7 K/BB ratio in 33 innings. He's of no use for fantasy purposes. Williams will match up with the Pirates at home in his next outing.
May 6 - 10:34 PM

Ryan Howard went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, but the Phillies were handed a loss by the Braves on Wednesday.

Howard drilled a solo home run off of Mike Foltynewicz in the sixth inning, reducing the Phillies' deficit to 6-2 at the time. That's number five on the season for Howard. Aside from the handful of home runs, though, Howard hasn't done a whole lot at the dish. He's hitting .220/.276/.462 with 13 RBI.
May 6 - 10:30 PM

Ben Revere went 4-for-5 with three doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Braves.

Revere did his best to help the Phillies come back against the Braves but it was just not enough. He doubled and scored in the third, doubled and was stranded in the fifth, knocked in a run with a double in the sixth, and singled and scored in the ninth. The light-hitting outfielder is hitting .264/.304/.368 with five stolen bases following a sluggish start to the 2015 campaign.
May 6 - 10:28 PM

Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to help the Braves edge the Phillies on Wednesday.

Freeman broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning with an RBI double, then pushed the Braves' lead to 6-1 in the fifth inning with a two-run double. Phillies pitching has revitalized Freeman's bat as he logged seven hits in 12 at-bats in the series. He's now batting .250/.301/.544 with five home runs and 17 RBI on the season.
