David Wright is headed to California to have his back examined by a specialist.
Wright was diagnosed last week with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal column, and the veteran third baseman is trying to figure out a treatment plan. More should be known in the next couple of days. It's probably going to be a while before we see him return to the Mets' active roster.
Cubs shortstop prospect Javier Baez launched two homers Sunday in a win for Triple-A Iowa.
Baez had a great weekend, mashing seven hits in 13 at-bats with three homers and six RBI. The 22-year-old doesn't have enough at-bats to qualify, but if he did, his OPS (.944) would be the eighth-highest in the Pacific Coast League while his slugging percentage (.540) would be tenth-highest. Baez crushed nine homers in his first stint in the big leagues last season but struggled to hit for average (.169 in 213 at-bats).
Buster Posey is out of the Giants' starting lineup on Monday afternoon against the Brewers.
It's just a day of rest for Posey. Andrew Susac will catch Tim Lincecum and bat eighth at Miller Park.
Jason Heyward (hip) is in the Cardinals' starting lineup Monday versus the visiting Diamondbacks.
Heyward sat out Saturday and Sunday in Kansas City with some lingering tightness in his left hip. He's starting in right field and batting seventh on Memorial Day. Matt Holliday is in left and Peter Bourjos is in center.
Matt Holliday (arm) is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Monday against the Diamondbacks.
He'll bat third and start in left field after missing Sunday's game. Holliday took a pitch off his arm on Saturday in Kansas City, but he only suffered a bruise.
Carlos Gonzalez has been scratched from the Rockies' lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
Gonzalez was penciled in as the Rockies' No. 3 hitter for their series opener at Great American Ball Park, but he's battling some flu-like symptoms. Brandon Barnes is in right field and batting sixth and Ben Paulsen is in left field and batting cleanup. Charlie Blackmon will start in center and lead off.
Miguel Montero is not in the Cubs' lineup Tuesday.
David Ross will start behind the plate for Cubs left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada in the afternoon opener against the Nationals. It's just a day of rest for Montero.
Kevin Gausman (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a two-inning simulated game on June 2.
Gausman first has to make it through a bullpen session Tuesday and a live batting practice session Friday. The right-hander has been on the disabled list since early May with shoulder tendinitis. It's not exactly clear what his role will be once he's deemed ready to pitch in major league games.
