Jonathan Broxton notched his fourth save in four chances Thursday with a scorless ninth against the Pirates.

Broxton still hasn't allowed a run in five innings since coming off the DL. He's now pitched on back-to-back days, so we doubt the Reds will want him going again on Friday. Unfortunately, the other quality option in the pen, Sam LeCure, has also worked the last two days, leaving things quite up in the air for Friday. LeCure is more likely than Broxton to pitch in three straight, but it's no sure thing.

Neftali Feliz has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Round Rock with arm inflammation.

Feliz was checked out by a specialist on Thursday and does not have any major structural damage. The Rangers will continue to treat the 25-year-old with care.

Brandon Cumpton took a tough loss after allowing two runs and four hits in seven innings Thursday against the Reds.

Cumpton walked just one, but he did hit three batters. Of course, those don't count against his WHIP, which was a nice 0.71 for the game. He should remain a useable NL-only pitcher for as long as he's needed in the rotation.

Pedro Figueroa has been diagnosed with a torn UCL and is likely to undergo Tommy John elbow surgery.

That was the diagnosis Thursday from Dr. Keith Meister. Figueroa has already been placed on the disabled list and is likely to be sidelined through early 2015.

Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-3 with a double that plated both Reds runs in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

Ludwick is hitting .293, so there's been little Chris Heisey in left field of late. Ludwick still doesn't have a lot going for him besides the average, with four extra-base hits and four walks in 59 at-bats, but he's doing enough to keep his job.

Starling Marte went 0-for-4 with two more strikeouts Thursday in the loss to the Reds.

Marte leads the majors with 35 strikeouts, which is pretty ridiculous for someone with such modest power. On the plus side, he has walked more, with eight in 23 games so far. Last year, he had a 138/25 K/BB in 135 games, yet he was still a productive leadoff hitter anyway.

Russell Martin expects to return to the Pirates' starting lineup on Friday in St. Louis.

Martin has been out the past two games with lower body soreness -- the result of a hard slide into home plate on Monday. He is still appealing the one-game suspension that he was given for his role in Sunday's brawl with the Brewers.

Yankees purchased the contract of RHP Bruce Billings from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Billings was sporting a 2.74 ERA, 1.217 WHIP, and 18/7 K/BB ratio in 23 innings this year at the Triple-A level. He has not appeared in a major league game since 2011.
