Miguel Gonzalez imploded Saturday in a loss to the Blue Jays, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs in only 5 1/3 innings.

This one was pretty much doomed from the start. Toronto strung together three runs in the first inning and kept the slugfest going with two more in the second and another three in the fourth. Gonzalez was lifted after throwing just 81 pitches, finishing the afternoon with three walks and a pair of strikeouts. The right-hander has done nothing to instill confidence this year, winning just one of his 10 starts with a 5.17 ERA. He could be pitching for his rotation spot when he takes the hill Friday against Houston.

Brett Lawrie hammered a pair of home runs Saturday in a loss to the Blue Jays.

The Pale Hose matched a team record with seven home runs on Saturday, though all of them were solo shots. Lawrie legged an inside-the-parker in the second inning before taking R.A. Dickey deep again in the fourth. He added an RBI single in the sixth for good measure. The 26-year-old is now on pace for 20 home runs, which would best the 16 he belted last season. Unfortunately he's hitting just .241 with 88 strikeouts in 278 at-bats.

Sean Manaea (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list Wednesday against the Giants.

Manaea suffered a left pronator strain earlier this month but only missed a few starts. The left-hander allowed two hits, two runs and a pair of walks in 3 2/3 innings Friday in a rehab outing for High-A Stockton. He's had a tough time adjusting to the big leagues with just two wins and a 6.02 ERA through his first nine starts.

Athletics transferred RHP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list.

It's just a formality as Alvarez has already missed more than 60 days. Alvarez recently suffered another setback in his recovery from shoulder surgery. He's still without a timetable.

Athletics purchased the contract of LHP Dillon Overton from Triple-A Nashville.

Overton wasn't on the 40-man roster so the A's transferred Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list to make room for him. The left-hander will make his big-league debut Saturday against the Angels. Overton won his last seven starts for Nashville before his promotion, recording a dominant 1.40 ERA over that span.
Jun 25 - 5:35 PM

Athletics optioned LHP Eric Surkamp to Triple-A Nashville.

The A's needed to clear a roster spot for Dillon Overton, who is set to make his major league debut on Saturday. With Surkamp back in the minors, Sean Manaea (elbow) should return to the A's rotation Wednesday against San Francisco. Surkamp is winless in nine starts this season with a disastrous 6.98 ERA.
Jun 25 - 5:31 PM

Francisco Cervelli (hand) did some catching drills on Saturday.

He had his stitches removed on Friday. Cervelli is still building up strength after fracturing his left hand earlier this month. His original timetable was 4-6 weeks and it doesn't look like that's changed. Chris Stewart and Erik Kratz will continue to fill in behind the plate for Pittsburgh.
Jun 25 - 5:18 PM

Brandon Nimmo won't be in the starting lineup Saturday against the Braves.

He didn't arrive in Atlanta until late in the afternoon so manager Terry Collins decided to give him a day to get settled. Alejandro De Aza will grab the start in left field and bat seventh against Braves right-hander Julio Teheran. Nimmo should be in the lineup to make his major league debut Sunday in the series finale.
