Wings' top line crushes Caps Monday night
Datsyuk
Pavel Datsyuk registered three assists to lead the Red Wings to a 4-3 shootout win over the Capitals in NHL action Monday night.
Although Datsyuk’s performance this season is being overlooked by many, due to the amazing play of linemate Henrik Zetterberg, don’t fall into that trap. The shifty center now has 41 points and ranks 10th in NHL overall scoring. Nicklas Lidstrom registered two assists in the contest, while Zetterberg scored his 24th goal of the season, registered an assist and took a game-high nine shots on goal. Tomas Holmstrom scored twice in the victory and now has 16 goals for the season. Jiri Hudler scored the winning goal in the shootout. Dec. 17 - 9:54 pm et

This was my first practice actually being on a line so it was a lot more fun, did some more drills with some physical things in it. I needed that." Feb. 9 - 1:11 pm et

Hurricanes will monitor Ward's back for weeks
Ward
Cam Ward's back injury will be monitored for a couple of weeks.
"After a couple of weeks, they'll have a better understanding of his condition," GM Jim Rutherford said. "They'd like to see how it settles down, let him rest, then go from there." Don't expect Ward to play in any of the Hurricanes' last three games before the Olympic break. Rutherford said that Ward may or may not require surgery, but for now the good news is that Carolina doesn't have any games scheduled between February 14th and March 2nd anyways. We'll keep you posted. Feb. 9 - 9:55 am et

Getzlaf
Ryan Getzlaf suffered a sprained ankle in Monday's 4-2 win over Los Angeles.
The injury to his left ankle occurred early in the second period and it forced him to leave the game and not return. Initial X-rays did not reveal a break, but he will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to assess the damage. "Right now he's walking in a boot," coach Randy Carlyle said. "He'll walk on crutches and we'll have an MRI done. And that will give us a better indication on the severity of the sprain." Stay tuned. Feb. 9 - 6:18 am et
