This week we will preview the teams in the Central Division

 Doug Gilmour-C-Maple LeafsAug. 7 - 7:30 pm et
Doug Gilmour will serve as the AHL's Toronto Marlies assistant coach this season.
"We are thrilled to have Doug join the coaching staff of the Marlies," Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher said. "Doug has done so much for the Leafs organization and he brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience to Greg Gilbert's staff." The Toronto Maple Leafs also plan to have a banner raised this season in honor of their former star player.

 Sean Hill-D-WildAug. 7 - 1:49 pm et
Sean Hill will play in Switzerland this season.
Hill has agreed to a one-year deal with Swiss club Biel. Hill scored two goals and nine points in 35 games last season. At the age of 38, this could mark the end of Hill's NHL career. Hill had 298 points and 1,008 penalty minutes in 876 career NHL games. Over 15 seasons, Hill has played for Montreal, Anaheim, Ottawa, Carolina, St. Louis, Florida, the New York Islanders, and Minnesota.

 Pavel Kubina-D-Maple LeafsAug. 7 - 8:44 am et
If Mats Sundin doesn't re-sign with the Maple Leafs, Pavel Kubina could be Toronto's new Captain.
It looks like the Leafs aren't likely to trade Kubina. If they did trade him by August 15th, Kubina would not be able to use his no-trade clause to veto the deal. "Any trade involving Pavel would have to be very advantageous for the Leafs," GM Cliff Fletcher said. "I thought he played well last season (after an awful start to Kubina's four-year $20-million deal) and I know (new coach) Ron Wilson liked him a lot. Plus, it's very quiet right now for trades." Fletcher considers Kubina to be a serious candidate to serve as the team's Captain if Sundin retires or signs elsewhere. However, the Leafs will probably wait until the end of training camp before they decide who the team's next Captain will be.

 Martin Gelinas-W-PredatorsAug. 7 - 8:30 am et
GM David Poile doesn't think Nashville will end up signing unrestricted free agent Martin Gelinas.
"I wish we had a position for him because he's good as a fourth-line guy, with penalty-killing and leadership," Poile said. "But right now we have those guys. You never say never, but it's a long shot." Poile might hold out on making any more significant moves until after the International Ice Hockey Federation rules on the Alexander Radulov matter. Radulov has signed a deal with to play in the Continental Hockey League despite still being under contract with the Nashville Predators. The IIHF has suspended Radulov while they investigate the matter.

 Jan Hlavac-W-PredatorsAug. 7 - 8:24 am et
Jan Hlavac has signed a contract with Linkoping of the Swedish elite league.
Hlavac's agent, Ritchie Winter, blamed Nashville for his decision to move to Europe. According to Winter, Hlavac was trying to get a one-year contract in the $1 million range, but the Predators were offering him roughly $740,000. "It was hard for us to understand," Winter said. "Jan was prepared to take less money to come back than to sign (in Sweden). But the Predators never really got anywhere close to the kind of offer you'd expect for a player that's accomplished what he has. It's too bad because it really looked like he had good chemistry with the coaches and players there." Hlavac scored 12 goals and registered 23 assists in 80 games with Tampa Bay and Nashville last season.
