Donovan McNabb
- QB
Feb. 8 - 1:08 pm et
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that the Broncos, Bills, and Browns have shown interest in the availability of Donovan McNabb.
While Cleveland and Buffalo has obvious holes at QB, this tells us a little about Denver's faith, or lack of it, in Kyle Orton as a long-term solution. The Eagles have indicated that McNabb is unlikely to be traded. Should they be offered a first-round pick however, we strongly believe that would change.

Terrell Owens
- WR
Feb. 8 - 9:49 am et
Sports Illustrated's Peter King says that "Terrell Owens in stripes will happen the day I run an ultra-marathon."
In other words, King is pretty sure T.O. isn't going to land in Cincinnati. Chris Mortensen said about the same thing on Sunday morning and it makes sense. The Bengals need someone that can stretch the field vertically and Owens is no longer that guy. He'll find that not many teams will be beating down his door as a free agent.

Kawika Mitchell
- LB
Feb. 5 - 10:49 am et
Kawika Mitchell is expected to move inside next to Paul Posluszny in the Bills' new "3-4" hybrid defense.
Though the move to a "3-4" has been panned due to the Bills' lack of personnel, we think it's perfect timing. Mitchell and Pos will flourish inside while Aaron Maybin and Aaron Schobel form a promising edge-rushing tandem. Mitchell's IDP value gets a nice boost with the move.

Terrell Owens
- WR
Feb. 4 - 7:54 pm et
Free agent Terrell Owens said he was willing to join Chad Ochocinco with the Bengals, but he's not ruling out a return to Buffalo either.
"I would like to be a Bill under the right circumstances," Owens said. "I want to compete for a Super Bowl. If the neccessary pieces are put in place for that to happen, then I'll be there." As expected, Ochocinco's "prediction" was far less of a guarantee and more of a playful recruiting tactic.

Tyler Thigpen
- QB
Feb. 4 - 5:16 pm et
Buffalobills.com's Chris Brown suggests Dolphins QB Tyler Thigpen could be a trade target for the Bills.
Thigpen rumors are making the rounds after Chad Pennington suggested he wanted to return to Miami. Brown believes it's a good fit due to Thigpen's history with Chan Gailey and his improvisational skills behind a poor line. It's one thing to put Thigpen in the pistol spread for six weeks in a lost season and quite another to trust him as the starter in the elements at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Marcus Stroud
- DL
Feb. 4 - 4:32 pm et
Marcus Stroud believes he can play two-gap nose tackle in the Bills' new 3-4 defense.
"As long as I can be healthy, I feel like I can do well in either system," said Stroud. "If that's the case and I have to move to nosetackle, then I'll do it." The aging Stroud is hardly the prototype nose at 6'6/310, so the Bills may take a close look at Tennessee's Dan Williams and Alabama's Terrence Cody in the draft.

Aaron Schobel
- DL
Feb. 4 - 4:26 pm et
Bills RE Aaron Schobel would likely move to outside linebacker if he decides against retirement this offseason.
Schobel suggested last month that he might be a better fit in the 3-4 defense, and he'll likely get his chance opposite Aaron Maybin if he returns for another season. At 6'4/243, he has the size to succeed in George Edwards' new scheme.

Aaron Maybin
- DL
Feb. 4 - 4:22 pm et
Aaron Maybin will move from defensive end to pass rushing outside linebacker in coordinator George Edwards' hybrid 3-4 scheme.
A major disappointment as a rookie, Maybin is the main beneficiary of the change. He didn't have the size for defensive end, but the athletic speed-rusher is an ideal fit to play outside in a 3-4 defense.

Bills Defense
- TM
Feb. 4 - 1:47 pm et
Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio reports the Bills will hire University of Florida defensive coordinator George Edwards for the same position in Buffalo. The Bills have confirmed the report.
Edwards left the Dolphins for the Gators job just three weeks ago. Since 1998, he has served as a successful linebackers coach with the Cowboys, Redskins, Browns, and Dolphins. It was in Dallas that he worked with head coach Chan Gailey. In his first experience as a coordinator, Edwards indicated that he will start out with a "3-4" scheme with an ability to flex to a "4-3" at times. It's still a big change for a defense that has run "4-3" for nine years.

Terrell Owens
- WR
Feb. 4 - 12:40 pm et
According to FoxSports' Jay Glazer, Chad Ochocinco is convinced free agent Terrell Owens will sign with the Bengals this offseason.
It's hard to take the mischievous Ochocinco at face value, but T.O. makes sense on the surface. The Bengals needs a receiver upgrade, and they may be the only team in the league that doesn't factor in character concerns. As a 36-year-old who struggles to break man coverage at the line, though, T.O. doesn't fill the team's need for a playmaking down-field threat.

Michael Vick
- QB
Feb. 3 - 12:28 pm et
ESPN's NFC East blogger Matt Mosley doesn't believe the Eagles will end up keeping Michael Vick for the 2010 season.
NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reported Tuesday that the Eagles "have no intention" of trading Vick, and they're excited about "incorporating" his skills into the offense with a full offseason. We still believe the report was planted only to increase trade demand for Vick. If the Eagles can get a decent draft pick, Vick is as good as gone.

Eagles hired former Bills head coach Dick Jauron to coach the team's defensive backs.
Jauron replaces Brian Stewart, who left to take over as defensive coordinator at the University of Houston. Per Peter King, Jauron tried to land the Princeton head coaching job only to be turned down. He'll be asked to fix the team's subpar safety play in 2010.

Aaron Schobel
- DL
Feb. 2 - 11:16 am et
According to
Football Outsiders
, Bills RE Aaron Schobel ranked third in the NFL in "successes" on the defensive line in 2009 and first in "defeats."
The success statistic is based on the number of plays Schobel caused the offense to have an unsuccessful play, while the defeat stat involves the number of snaps in which Schobel prevented the offense from picking up a first on third or fourth down. Schobel is considering retirement this offseason.

Lee Evans
- WR
Feb. 1 - 9:47 am et
Bills beat writer Mark Gaughan says that if Lee Evans were on a top team, he'd have huge numbers.
There's no question that Evans is a major talent, but it doesn't look like we'll find out anytime soon if Gaughan's assertion is true. Terrell Owens almost certainly won't be back, leading to more double teams on Evans next season. New coach Chan Gailey's offensive mind should help, but with the quarterback situation looking bleak at best, it's hard to be excited about Evans.

Eric Wood
- C
Feb. 1 - 8:52 am et
Bills RG Eric Wood (broken tibia and fibula) has just started walking again after his gruesome Week 11 injury.
Wood's goal is to be ready for training camp and we have to be skeptical about that. He has a rod and four screws in his leg and if they need to be removed, more surgery will be needed. There's a chance the promising first-rounder from last April will start 2010 on the PUP list.

Michael Vick
- QB
Jan. 31 - 10:33 am et
Sources tell ESPN's Len Pasquarelli that the Bills will indeed consider Michael Vick for their starting quarterback job.
This confirms beat writer Allen Wilson's speculation earlier this week. New coach Chan Gailey likes mobile quarterbacks, and the Bills can't enter 2010 with Trent Edwards as their starter. The Bills would likely only have to give up a conditional sixth- or seventh-round pick to land Vick.

The Bills are reportedly set to hire Calgary Stampeders offensive coordinator George Cortez as quarterbacks coach.
It's a smart hire. Cortez's resume in the CFL boasts Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia, Dave Dickenson and Henry Burris. He also tutored former first-round picks Kyle Boller and Aaron Rodgers at Cal from 2002-2006. The likely starting QB in Buffalo is not yet on the roster.

Chiefs Defense
- TM
Jan. 28 - 6:40 pm et
The Chiefs have agreed to allow former defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast to explore other coaching opportunities.
Coach Todd Haley originally wanted Pendergast to stay on as defensive backs coach after he was replaced by Romeo Crennel as coordinator. He could be a candidate in Buffalo, as he's worked under Chan Gailey before in Dallas. Dedric Ward, who started last season as the Chiefs receivers coach, has been replaced by Richie Anderson.

Michael Vick
- QB
Jan. 28 - 9:20 am et
Beat writer Allen Wilson suspects the Bills would only be interested in a Michael Vick trade if the Eagles' demands "aren't too outrageous."
"It's doubtful the Bills would get into a bidding war," adds Wilson. There are a half-dozen teams with a quarterback need, but the Rams appear to be the only other team seriously considering a trade for Vick. Bills coach Chan Gailey has a history of getting the most out of the passing and running skills of athletic QBs.

Bills Offense
- TM
Jan. 27 - 4:12 pm et
Bills named Curtis Modkins offensive coordinator and running backs coach.
Modkins will take a backseat to offensive-minded Chan Gailey in terms of game planning, but hiring the former line coach is another indication that Buffalo will lean toward a run-first approach instead of the Pistol Spread Gailey installed in 2008 with Kansas City. While Fred Jackson figures to keep the starting job, the Bills will likely need two backs for the scheme to work, increasing the odds that Marshawn Lynch lasts another year.
