A resurgent Anthony Kim defends at this week's AT&T National while Rob Bolton peeks in on the 2008 Nationwide Tour grads.

 Arjun Atwal-GJul. 3 - 6:15 pm et
Arjun Atwal is listed in the published field of next week's John Deere Classic.
Given that Atwal has been talking about a comeback from dual shoulder injuries, and that four months has passed since his last start, the John Deere was a safe bet for that return. Four months is the minimum a golfer can break and still qualify for a Major Medical extension the following year. Considering he needs about $800K to secure his 2010 PGA Tour card via the money list, even if he was ready to play sooner, it was a wise choice to wait. His history at the Deere is checkered, with two paychecks in three starts, neither of which was a top-55 finish.

 Matt Jones-GJul. 3 - 6:08 pm et
Matt Jones is listed in the published field of next week's John Deere Classic.
Due to a back injury, Jones was the only mid-tournament withdrawal at this year's U.S. Open, then he pulled out of the Travelers early. Limited to just eight events as a non-winner with conditional status, he hasn't been able to gain any consistency; however, if his back holds up, he could string a few starts together in the coming weeks.

 James OhJul. 3 - 6:01 pm et
James Oh is listed in the published field of next week's John Deere Classic.
Just doing some housework here. At 7-over-par through 29 holes of the Travelers, Oh opted not to finish his second round on Saturday morning when a missed cut was imminent. With just three paydays in 13 starts, the best of which was a T-39 at Pebble Beach, Oh's fantasy value is in the duffer's circuits.

 Troy Kelly-GJul. 3 - 5:56 pm et
Troy Kelly is listed in the published field of next week's John Deere Classic.
The rookie is having a forgettable season, having not cashed since the Sony Open, his first of 10 starts on the PGA Tour in 2009. (He's also 0-for-4 on the Nationwide Tour.) Recently, Kelly said, "I’m stepping up and trying to hit a draw and the thing goes straight. I’m not hitting the shots I’m visualizing and trying to produce in my head before I hit my shot." Unfortunately, unlike many of us that feel similarly, Kelly doesn't get to play to a handicap.

 Anthony Kim-GJul. 3 - 5:43 pm et
Anthony Kim carded an even-par 34-36=70 in the second round of the AT&T National.
Nothing like shooting yourself back to the field. One day after blistering Congressional for a course-record and career-low 62, Kim found just five (of 14) fairways, 12 GIR and needed 30 putts. During last year's victory, Kim fought back from three strokes down after 36 (and 54) holes, but didn't have Tiger Woods above him on the leaderboard.
 Rod Pampling-GJul. 3 - 4:09 pm et
Rod Pampling chased his opening 67 with a 6-under-par 32-32=64 in the second round of the AT&T National.
As hit-and-miss as Pampling is in fantasy circles, he's absolutely nails at Congressional. This week, he's buried an eagle and 10 birdies after finding 30 GIR and taking just 58 putts. He finished T-19 in 2007, T-3 a year ago and is currently one stroke off the 36-hole clubhouse lead. Today's 64 is a career low at the course at which his scoring average is now a sparkling 68.30 after 10 rounds.
 Tiger Woods-GJul. 3 - 3:56 pm et
Tiger Woods followed his opening 64 with a 4-under-par 33-33=66 in the second round of the AT&T National, allowing him to assume the early clubhouse lead.
He hit four fewer fairways (8), two fewer GIR (13) and took an extra putt (28) than in his opening round, and still carded just one bogey. Woods has won 31 of 37 times in his career when leading after 36 holes. Expect fireworks tomorrow, literally.
