There are still some vacancies on depth charts at the skill positions. Adam Levitan highlights five openings.

 Karl Paymah-DB-49ersMar. 17 - 4:54 pm et
49ers signed CB Karl Paymah to a one-year contract.
Paymah, 27, can be a valuable special teamer, but the Niners will be in trouble if he's forced into much defensive action. After flopping badly in coverage last year, the Vikings didn't even tender him a $1.226 million contract.

 Ryan Mathews-RB-PlayerMar. 17 - 4:48 pm et
Fresno State RB Ryan Mathews ran in the mid-4.4 range at the Bulldogs' Wednesday Pro Day.
The time is a repeat of Mathews' 4.45 at the Combine, although Wednesday's workout was reportedly on a soggy, wet field. Mathews, emerging as a surefire first-round pick, figures to be considered by Houston at No. 20 overall and New England at No. 22. We don't see him lasting to the Chargers (No. 28).

 Jonathan Crompton-QB-PlayerMar. 17 - 4:44 pm et
Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton reportedly failed to impress at the Vols' Wednesday Pro Day.
This hurts because Crompton wasn't invited to the Combine. According to SI.com's Tony Pauline, Crompton's "accuracy was off" during the workout. The one-year wonder appears to be only a seventh-round to free-agent prospect.

 Jason Babin-DL-EaglesMar. 17 - 4:35 pm et
Titans signed free agent DE Jason Babin to a one-year, $1 million offer sheet.
Tennessee would be Babin's fourth team in as many years. The Eagles have the right of first refusal on any offer sheet he signs, but may elect not to match this affordable contract after trading for DE Darryl Tapp on Tuesday.

 Brandon Spikes-LB-PlayerMar. 17 - 4:32 pm et
ESPN's Todd McShay expects Florida ILB Brandon Spikes to fall to the third round after running in the 5.0 range at Wednesday's Pro Day.
Meanwhile, National Football Post scout Wes Bunting believes Spikes will fall to day three of the draft. Spikes' forty time is offensive lineman like, and was beat out by several tackles at last month's Scouting Combine on a notoriously slow track. Spikes will likely also fall off most 4-3 teams' radars.

 Matt Leinart-QB-CardinalsMar. 17 - 4:23 pm et
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Live Wednesday that the Cardinals consider their quarterback situation "an open competition."
It'll be "let the best man win," Schefter added. Based on experience in the offense, familiarity with receivers, and sheer accuracy, Matt Leinart should hold a sizable edge. Rumblings continue that the Cards aren't sold on Leinart, however, and their previously aggressive pursuit of Charlie Whitehurst before signing Derek Anderson is only confirmation. If Anderson can regain his confidence, he'll give Leinart a run for his money in camp.

 Akin Ayodele-LB-DolphinsMar. 17 - 3:56 pm et
Free agent LB Akin Ayodele will visit with the Lions on Thursday night and into Friday.
The Niners let Ayodele leave the Bay Area without a contract after offering him only a clear-cut backup role. He wouldn't start in Detroit, either, unless the Lions are quietly planning to cut ties with Julian Peterson's big salary.
