The Angels were pleased with the results of Jason Bulger's bullpen session Wednesday and have cleared him for action. Kelvim EscobarS D.L.Jun 16shoulderOut Indefinitely
Latest News:
Manager Mike Scioscia said that Kelvim Escobar (shoulder) probably won't return to the majors in 2009. "The medical department and Dr. [Lewis] Yocum keep tabs, but with Kelvim, each passing day means there's less and less chance he'll return," Scioscia said. "His shoulder isn't responding, and there's not really new news there." The right-hander belongs on waivers in most formats.

Scot ShieldsR D.L.May 27kneeLikely out for the season
Latest News:
Scot Shields (knee) had a follow-up exam with team physician Dr. Lewis Yocum Friday in Los Angeles. "I think everything is on schedule," Shields said. "I feel really good. There's no limp anymore. Brian MoehlerS OutOct 5knee surgeryDone for season
Latest News:
Astros exercised RHP Brian Moehler's 2010 option worth $3 million. Moehler, a 37-year-old right-hander, went 8-12 with a 5.47 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 29 starts this season with the Astros. He averaged only 5 1/3 innings per outing over the course of the season, and struggled mightily down the stretch. He should be avoided in nearly every fantasy draft next spring.

Chad ParontoR OutSep 29hamstringDone for season?
Latest News:
Chad Paronto (hamstring) is hoping to return before the end of the season. Paronto suffered a strained left hamstring Thursday night after throwing 1 1/3 scoreless inning of relief against the Phillies. Interim manager Dave Clark isn't too optimistic about his return. "It doesn't look good," said the skipper. "I know the hamstring pull was pretty severe."

Roy OswaltS D.L.Sep 25backOut for the season
Latest News:
Astros named Brad Arnsberg pitching coach, Al Pedrique bench coach and Bobby Meacham first-base coach. If the Astros had many young pitchers worth worrying about, we'd be more critical of the Arnsberg hiring. His track record when it comes to injuries, both in Florida and Toronto, is horrible. Pitchers seem to like him, though, and the Astros don't have many talented young arms to burn out. Pedrique, the Astros' third-base coach for a time last year, was one of the candidates for the managerial vacancy before Brad Mills was hired.

Billy SadlerR D.L.Sep 16-
Latest News:
Astros placed RHP Billy Sadler on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder scapular dyskinesis. Called up on September 7, Sadler made only one appearance for the Astros, allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Sadler was signed to a minor league deal by the Astros on August 6 after he was released by the Giants. The 27-year-old went 5-3 with a 5.12 ERA in 16 starts combined for Triple-A affiliates Round Rock and Fresno.

Scott HairstonOFOutSep 22hipDay-to-day
Latest News:
Scott Hairston probably won't play this week because of pain in his back and hip. Eric Patterson has been helping to fill in for him in the outfield, so he's worth using in AL-only leagues.

Vin MazzaroS D.L.Sep 18shoulderDone for season
Latest News:
Athletics placed RHP Vin Mazzaro on the 60-day disabled list with shoulder tendinitis. And now it's official. Mazzaro was told he'd be shut down for the year Thursday night and will be given the entire offseason to rest his shoulder. The 22-year-old showed flashes of potential this year but has a ways to go before he becomes a key member of the rotation. He should be ready for action by the start of spring training next year.

Brett TomkoR OutSep 15elbowDay-to-day
Latest News:
Brett Tomko (arm) has been shut down for the rest of the season. Tomko was diagnosed with nerve damage in his throwing arm earlier this week. He'll finish the year 5-3 with a 3.77 ERA and 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA over his last six starts. The impending free agent has said he'd like to re-sign with Oakland, but other teams might desire his services after such a fine finish. A bidding war for Brett Tomko? Should be a fun offseason.

Dallas BradenS D.L.Aug 8ankleDone for season
Latest News:
Athletics transferred LHP Dallas Braden from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. Braden's left foot was "traumatized" by a rash in late August and he'll need the next few months for recovery. The 25-year-old southpaw finished the 2009 season with a 3.89 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 22 starts.

Josh OutmanS D.L.Jun 24elbowOut for the season

Justin DuchschererS D.L.Apr 5elbowReturn August?
Latest News:
General manager Billy Beane doesn't plan to be active in the free agent market. "We're going to look at young players to fill spots, first and foremost," Beane said, with an eye towards top prospects Brett Wallace and Chris Carter. "If those players we'd like to acquire aren't obtainable, we'll consider bringing in guys who can hold the positions down. We're going to stay disciplined and try to do everything we can to fill those spots with young players." Beane would consider re-signing Justin Duchscherer or Adam Kennedy, but will let them entertain offers on the open market first. Such a strategy would effectively squash the chances of a Miguel Tejada or Carlos Delgado landing in Oakland.

Joey DevineR D.L.Apr 5elbowOut for the season
Latest News:
Joey Devine played catch Saturday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John Surgery in April. Devine is aiming to be at full health by the start of spring training 2010. If he reaches his goal, there's a good chance he'll be battling Andrew Bailey for ninth-inning duties next season.

He will compete for the closer's job in spring training, although the job seems Jason Frasor's to lose.

Marco ScutaroSSOutSep 20footDone for season?
Latest News:
According to his agent Peter Greenberg, free agent Marco Scutaro will "entertain all possibilities," including a return to the Blue Jays, reports FOXSports.com. "He definitely hasn't closed the door on Toronto at all," Greenberg said. Scutaro batted .282/.379/.409 with 12 homers, 60 RBI and 100 runs scored in 2009, and is drumming up interest as a shortstop or a second baseman. According to Greenberg, Scutaro was offered a contract extension by the Blue Jays both during and after the season. Scutaro would consider accepting a one-year deal if he is offered arbitration.

Jesse LitschS D.L.Apr 14elbowOut for the season
Latest News:
Jesse Litsch is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Friday. Litsch had been rehabbing in Florida since mid April after two previous MRI exams revealed no ligament damage. He was never able to get over the hump, however, and was continuing to suffer from intermittent soreness. Dr. James Andrews, who twice ruled out surgery while recommending rest, will perform the operation.

Dustin McGowanS D.L.Apr 5shoulderOut indefinitely
Latest News:
Dustin McGowan made 50 throws from 125 feet on Monday and reported no pain or discomfort in his surgically repaired knee. Latest News:
Further tests on Corey Hart's right hand Monday revealed only sprains and no fractures of any kind. Hart was misdiagnosed a few days ago as having breaks in his fourth and fifth fingers. The outfielder hit .260/.335/.418 with 12 home runs in 472 at-bats this season.

Dave BushS OutSep 30tricepsDone for season?
Latest News:
Dave Bush (triceps) will likely be shut down for the season. He will probably skip his start on Saturday. "It's been a challenge," Bush said. "What you don't want to do is go out and do something stupid on Saturday and get myself in a position where it could affect me beyond that." Bush spent two months on the disabled list earlier this season with the triceps injury. Carlos Villanueva is one option to make Saturday's start.

Mark DiFeliceR D.L.Sep 15shoulderreturn in 2010
Latest News:
Brewers placed RHP Mark DiFelice on the 60-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. DiFelice dodged a bullet when an MRI on his right shoulder came back clean, but the injury is apparently serious enough for the Brewers to shut him down. The 33-year-old right-hander was 4-1 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 59 games this season, but had a 9.45 ERA over his last 20 appearances.

Rickie Weeks2BD.L.May 19wristLikely out for the season
Latest News:
During a season-ending press conference at Miller Park, GM Doug Melvin named Rickie Weeks as the Brewers' starting second baseman in 2010. "We view Rickie as our second baseman at this point," said Melvin. And they should, since Felipe Lopez is an impending free-agent and the Brewers have significant holes to fill in their rotation. During Friday's press conference, Melvin announced that he hopes to acquire two starting pitchers during the offseason. With that in mind, he hopes that resigning Trevor Hoffman will convince some free agent starters to come to Milwaukee.

David RiskeR D.L.Apr 16elbowOut indefinitely

Brewers transferred RHP David Riske to the 60-day disabled list. Riske decided to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Monday and probably won't return until June or July of 2010. The 32-year-old had allowed two earned runs in one inning of work this season.

Ted LillyS OutNov 4shoulderQuestionable for Opening Day
Latest News:
Ted Lilly could miss the start of 2010 after undergoing shoulder surgery on Tuesday, the Cubs announced. In a release, the Cubs said Dr. Lewis Yocum "found no major damage to Lilly’s shoulder and the procedure consisted of a washout and cleanup of the shoulder" and that the surgery took about one hour. Still, Lilly probably won't be 100 percent for the start of spring training and could miss a portion of April. That's not such a bad thing for the Cubs. Lilly might be healthier at the end of next season than he was this year if he gets off to a late start.

Kevin GreggR OutSep 26ribsDone for season
Latest News:
Kevin Gregg said Wednesday that he wants to be a closer next season. It won't happen in Chicago. Milton BradleyOFSuspendedSep 23-Out for the season
Latest News:
According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, a reported three-team deal involving the Cubs, Mets, Rangers and Milton Bradley will not happen. Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reported Friday morning that a deal which would send Kevin Millwood to the Mets, Luis Castillo to the Cubs, and Bradley to Texas was in the works. Sullivan spoke to a "high-ranking" Rangers official Friday afternoon, who said bluntly: "Not happening." The Rangers have Millwood tabbed as their No. 1 starter heading into the 2010 season.

Alfonso Soriano said Monday that he's excited about the possibility of having Rudy Jaramillo as the Cubs' hitting coach. ‘‘That’s going to be good news,’’ said the outfielder, who worked with Jaramillo in Texas. ‘‘We had very good communication because he speaks Spanish. He’s very good and smart. He works very hard, too.’’ Soriano hit just .241 with 20 homers last season for the Cubs. Chad FoxR D.L.May 10elbowOut for season
Latest News:
Cubs placed RHP Chad Fox on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. Fox has had a multitude of injuries attack him in recent years, and it was impressive how he battled back from three Tommy John injuries. His first game since being recalled from the minors ended in yet again another injury, however. He's likely out for the year for what is being termed right-elbow inflammation.

Brandon WebbS OutNov 11shoulderProbable for Opening Day
Latest News:
Accoring to managing general partner Ken Kendrick, the Diamondbacks' payroll will likely increase north of $75 million for 2010. General manager Josh Byrnes began the offseason with roughly $20 million to spend, but after picking up the $8.5 million option for Brandon Webb, the club will have less room to work with. "We definitely have more than $10 million to spend in the market," Kendrick said. "There are other moves that we may make that could change the money landscape that have yet to be determined." Of course, their flexibility may change depending on whether they will be able to find a taker for Chris Snyder or Eric Byrnes, but the Diamondbacks are expected to look for a No. 4 starter, a set-up man and a veteran position player. Arizona's payroll was approximately $73 million in 2009.

Chad QuallsR D.L.Aug 31kneeOut indefinitely
Latest News:
Diamondbacks team physicians have recommended surgery for Chad Qualls and his dislocated left kneecap. Qualls isn't expected to seek another opinion. He will only need three or four months for recovery once the procedure is finished, which should leave him enough time to get ready for the start of spring training 2010. The closer was placed on the disabled list Monday evening and finishes the year with a 3.63 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 24 saves.

Chris SnyderC D.L.Aug 29lower bodyDone for season
Latest News:
Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes that the Mets have interest in Diamondbacks' catcher Chris Snyder. Sherman notes that the Mets tried to dangle second baseman Luis Castillo in a swap of undesirable contracts, but the Diamondbacks were not receptive to the offer. Still, the Mets remain interested in the 28-year-old catcher. Snyder batted .200/.333/.352 in 2009, but is just one season removed from slugging 16 home runs. He is currently rehabbing from back surgery. The Mets would like to add a more potent option behind the plate if they are unable to land Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. According to Sherman, the Mets are also considering Bengie Molina.

Latest News:
Conor Jackson is batting .368/.519/.561 with five doubles and two homers through 57 at-bats in the Dominican Winter League. "It’s going great so far, no setbacks whatsoever, and from the baseball side of it I feel like my old self again," he wrote in an e-mail. Emmanuel Burriss2BD.L.Sep 1-
Latest News:
Giants recalled second baseman Emmanuel Burriss from Triple-A Fresno and placed him on the 60-day disabled list. Of course, Burriss is out for the year after breaking his left foot back in July, so this is purely a procedural transaction in order to make room for the newly-inked Brad Penny on the roster. Burriss should be ready in time for the 2010 season.

Kelvin PichardoR D.L.Jun 29shoulderReturn August?
Latest News:
Giants recalled RHP Kelvin Pichardo and placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain. The transaction was necessary in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Ryan Sadowski. It's a cold way to treat Pichardo, but he recently finished up a 50-game performance enhancing drug-related suspension and doesn't have much pull at this point within the organization.

Noah LowryS D.L.Apr 5armOut for the season

The center-fielder is working out at the Indians' spring complex and should have no restrictions entering spring training. Sizemore battled injuries all year, finishing with a .788 OPS, his worst in full-time play. His line plus the injuries will ensure he drops down draft boards for 2010: don't let him get past you.

Johan SantanaS D.L.Aug 25elbow2010
Latest News:
A Mets source close to Omar Minaya told Jon Heyman of SI.com that the reason Minaya still has his job is strictly because of the three-year extension the GM signed in October 2008. Minaya is certainly on very thin ice, and Heyman believes manager Jerry Manuel is in a better position to last longer in the organization. The Mets are willing to spend in free agency, so Minaya will have the chance to build a contending team. If New York falls flat on their face again, you can bet Omar will be on the way out.

The righty found success with the Nationals, posting a 3.60 ERA and 20 saves in 21 opportunities, however his 1.52 WHIP and 30/30 K/BB ratio indicates it was likely built on a house of cards. Latest News:
Manny Corpas is unlikely to pitch again in the regular season. If the Rockies manage to take the National League Wild Card crown, he could feasibly help them in the playoffs. But it's not looking good. Corpas had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow in late July.

That’s why we waited this long,’’ Buchholz said. "Looking back, I guess you could say I could have had this done three months ago. But we were hopeful.’’

Chris Getz2BOutSep 29groinDone for season
Latest News:
Royals acquired second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields from the White Sox for infielder-outfielder Mark Teahen and cash considerations. Another low-cost piece for the Royals, as Dayton Moore acquires him at the league minimum. Getz batted .261/.324/.347 with two homers, 31 RBI and 25 stolen bases during his first full major league season in 2009. It's not yet clear how the Royals intend to use the 26-year-old since he can't touch Alberto Callaspo with the bat, but at least manager Trey Hillman has a lot of moving pieces to work with.

"I'm hoping that he will, but I don't know that's going to happen," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "He's still experiencing some soreness, and we're being more precautionary than aggressive in that situation." Davies was scratched from his Saturday start due to a slight strain in his oblique. Gil MecheS OutSep 10shoulderDoubtful for season
Latest News:
Gil Meche (shoulder inflammation) is unlikely to pitch the remainder of the year. Meche has battled arm and back troubles all year, leaving him with a pedestrian 5.09 ERA on the year after sub-4 ERAs the past two years. Robinson Tejada will continue to start in his place.

Tigers recalled infielder Michael Hollimon from Double-A Erie and placed him on the 60-day disabled list. Purely a procedural transaction, the move enables the Tigers to make room for infielder Brent Dlugach on the 40-man roster. Joe Crede3BOutSep 14backOut for season
Latest News:
General manager Bill Smith said that Joe Crede is interested in returning to the Twins next season. "His agent [Scott Boras] called shortly after the season and expressed [Crede's] interest in playing here," said Smith. "We're going to look at all options including Joe Crede and the young guys that we have. We'll try to make the best decision moving forward." Danny Valencia isn't quite ready for the majors, so if Smith exhausts the available free agent and trade options, a one-year incentive-laden contract for Crede might not be the worst thing.

D.J. CarrascoR OutSep 30hamstringOut for the season?
Latest News:
D.J. Carrasco may miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. He's been an important innings eater in the Chicago bullpen, but this injury shouldn't cause much of a ripple in fantasy leagues. If he's done for the season, the 32-year-old finishes 2009 with a 3.76 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 62/29 K/BB ratio in 93 1/3 innings.

Bobby JenksR OutSep 22calfOut for the season
Latest News:
Bobby Jenks is unhappy with the team's comments about his conditioning. "Honestly, I've given it a lot of thought these last couple of weeks," said Jenks during a chat with MLB.com over the weekend. "The actions of the last two weeks ... am I unhappy with them? Yes. Anyone in my situation would feel the same way, but I want to be part of the White Sox 100 percent." Jenks was responding to comments made by manager Ozzie Guillen and pitching coach Don Cooper during the final week of the season. The 28-year-old closer posted a 3.71 ERA and 29 saves while suffering through kidney stones and back problems. He finally went down for the season with a pulled calf muscle on September 17. Jenks is arbitration-eligible this winter, but there has been increased chatter about him as a trade candidate.

Chien-Ming WangS D.L.Jul 5shoulderOut for season
Latest News:
Chien-Ming Wang, who underwent left shoulder surgery in June, has been cleared to begin throwing by December 1. The news probably won't excite the Yankees enough to get him off their list of non-tender candidates, but the progress he's showing will appeal to other teams. Wang went 1-6 this season with a 9.64 ERA before undergoing his season-ending procedure. He won 38 games between 2006 and 2007.

Xavier NadyOFD.L.Apr 15elbowDone for season
Latest News:
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have interest in Xavier Nady. Nady is one of Scott Boras' clients, so while the Cardinals addressed the Matt Holliday situation at length, they also reportedly discussed Nady, who is currently rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. It would be a tough sell in St. Louis if Holliday bolts for the highest bidder, but Nady could be a low-cost alternative.
