 Tug Hulett-2B- Royals Nov. 20 - 6:16 pm et

Royals designated infielder Tug Hulett for assignment.
The Royals cut Hulett to make room on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old infielder spent most of the season at Triple-A Tacoma, but batted .111/.158/.111 with one RBI in 18 at-bats with the big club. Hulett hasn't done much at the major league level, but he has shown good on-base skills while playing all over the diamond in the minors.
 Danny Valencia-3B- Twins Nov. 20 - 5:37 pm et

Twins purchased the contracts of INFs Danny Valencia and Estarlin De Los Santos, and RHPs Deolis Guerra, Alex Burnett, Loek Van Mil and Rob Delaney.
The players are now on Minnesota's 40-man roster and are safe from selection in the Rule 5 Draft. Valencia, 25, could compete for the Twins' third base job this spring if they don't find a solution on the open market. He hit .286 in '09 with seven homers and 41 RBI in 71 games at Triple-A Rochester.
 Cole Gillespie-OF- Diamondbacks Nov. 20 - 5:25 pm et

Diamondbacks purchased the contracts of OF Cole Gillespie, RHPs Roque Mercedes and Daniel Stange and LHP Jordan Norberto.
The players are now safe from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft. Gillespie, 25, hit .304/.418/.514 in 42 games for Triple-A Reno this season and was invited to the prestigious Arizona Fall League. The D'Backs nabbed him from Milwaukee this past summer in a trade for Felipe Lopez.
 Chris Waters-R- Orioles Nov. 20 - 5:14 pm et

Orioles designated LHP Chris Waters for assignment.
Waters appeared in five games (one start) this season on the major league level, posting a 5.40 ERA and 5/5 K/BB ratio in 11 2/3 innings. He had a 4.49 ERA in 29 appearances (20 starts) at Triple-A.
Robert Manuel-R- Red Sox Nov. 20 - 5:10 pm et

Red Sox claimed RHP Robert Manuel off waivers from the Mariners.
Maneul, 26, posted a 2.88 ERA and 49/16 K/BB ratio in 65 2/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. His numbers are strong, but he has sub-par stuff and may be destined for a career in middle relief.
 Jeff Bianchi-2B- Royals Nov. 20 - 4:55 pm et

Royals purchased the contracts of INF Jeff Bianchi, OF Jordan Parraz, OF Jarrod Dyson, C Manny Pina and RHP Blake Wood.
The roster moves protect the players from being selected in the Rule 5 Draft. Bianchi hasn't exactly built on his impressive professional debut in 2006, but he managed a respectable .308/.358/.435 batting line this season between two different minor league levels and is only 23 years of age.
 Chris Jakubauskas-R- Pirates Nov. 20 - 4:48 pm et

Pirates claimed RHP Chris Jakubauskas off waivers from the Mariners.
Jakubauskas posted a 5.32 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 35 appearances (eight starts) with the Mariners this season while battling a few shoulder issues. He turns 31 in December, but the Bucs are desperate for pitching.
 Brad Lincoln-S- Pirates Nov. 20 - 4:46 pm et

Pirates purchased the contracts of RHP Brad Lincoln, RHP Ramon Augero, RHP Bryan Morris and OF Gorkys Hernandez.
The players are now protected from the Rule 5 Draft and are also members of the Pirates' 40-man roster. Lincoln, 24, posted a 3.37 ERA and 107/28 K/BB ratio this season between Double-A and Triple-A.
 Daryl Thompson-S- Reds Nov. 20 - 4:14 pm et

Reds sent RHP Daryl Thompson outright to Triple-A Louisville.
It's somewhat surprising that Thompson was able to pass through waivers unclaimed. He's had some arm troubles, but allowed just 105 hits and posted a 99/30 K/BB ratio in 127 minor league innings just one year ago.
 Paul Phillips-C- Rockies Nov. 20 - 4:09 pm et

Rockies signed C Paul Phillips to a minor league contract.
Phillips, 32, hit .311/.396/.422 this season with a homer and nine RBI in 45 at-bats on the major league level. The new deal comes with a clause that will grant him $450,000 if he reaches the bigs again next year.
 Laynce Nix-OF- Reds Nov. 20 - 3:48 pm et

Reds OF Laynce Nix has elected free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville.
Nix, 29, hit .239/.291/.476 this past season with a career-high 15 homers, 26 doubles and 46 RBI in 309 at-bats. He'll no doubt draw interest this winter from teams looking for a reliable utility outfielder.
 Jose Ceda-R- Marlins Nov. 20 - 3:40 pm et

Marlins purchased the contracts of RHP Jose Ceda, RHP Jay Buente, RHP Brett Sinkbeil, RHP Kris Harvey and OF Scott Cousins.
The players are now safe from MLB's Rule 5 Draft. Ceda missed most of 2008 and the entire 2009 season with a right shoulder injury, but the Marlins still believe in the 22-year-old's potential.
 Craig Tatum-C- Orioles Nov. 20 - 3:36 pm et

Orioles claimed C Craig Tatum off waivers from the Reds.
Tatum, 26, hit .239/.300/.338 with three homers and 21 RBI in 213 at-bats this season with the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky. He was given 68 major league at-bats and managed just 11 hits.
 Robb Quinlan-OF- Angels Nov. 20 - 3:15 pm et

According to MLB.com's Lyle Spencer, a handful of teams have shown interest in utilityman Robb Quinlan this offseason.
Quinlan, 32, hit .243/.275/.339 with two homers and 14 RBI in 2009 while playing sub-par defense at a variety of positions. Interested clubs are obviously hoping he'll sign on as a cheap, somewhat versatile backup.

 Scott Sizemore-2B- Tigers Nov. 20 - 2:13 pm et

Tigers purchased the contracts of 2B Scott Sizemore, SS Audy Ciriaco, 1B/OF Ryan Strieby and OF Brennan Boesch.
The four players are now on Detroit's 40-man roster and subsequently protected from the Rule 5 Draft. Sizemore, 24, underwent surgery in October to repair his left ankle but should be fine for the start of spring training. He'll get a shot to compete for the 2010 starting second base gig as long as the Tigers don't do something unexpected this winter on the free agent market.
 John Halama-R- Braves Nov. 20 - 1:39 pm et

According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, left-hander John Halama hopes to sign a minor league contract with the Brewers next week.
The Brew Crew will have a scout in the stands Friday night when Halama takes the mound in the Dominican Republic. Assuming all goes well, Milwaukee will give the 37-year-old lefty a shot. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2006, but posted a 4.48 ERA in 16 appearances (13 starts) this season at Triple-A Gwinnett. The Brewers really are desperate for arms.

 John Grabow-R- Cubs Nov. 20 - 1:09 pm et

Cubs signed LHP John Grabow to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
The deal, for some reason, took over a week to finalize. Perhaps the Cubs were having second thoughts. Grabow, 31, was a very solid left-handed reliever this season, but the salary does seem a bit high. He'll need to prove that his 3.36 2009 ERA was no fluke to justify the chunk of change. And with a 4.03 career ERA and 1.44 career WHIP, the odds are against him.
Sergio Santos-SS- White Sox Nov. 20 - 1:06 pm et

White Sox purchased the contracts of RHPs Brandon Hynick, Brian Omogrosso, Sergio Santos, Santo Luis, and OF Stefan Gartrell.
The transaction protects all five players from the Rule 5 Draft. Santos, 26, was converted into a pitcher prior to the 2009 season and went 0-3 with a 8.16 ERA in his first year on a professional mound.
 Milton Bradley-OF- Cubs Nov. 20 - 12:37 pm et

According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, a reported three-team deal involving the Cubs, Mets, Rangers and Milton Bradley will not happen.
Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reported Friday morning that a deal which would send Kevin Millwood to the Mets, Luis Castillo to the Cubs, and Bradley to Texas was in the works. Sullivan spoke to a "high-ranking" Rangers official Friday afternoon, who said bluntly: "Not happening." The Rangers have Millwood tabbed as their No. 1 starter heading into the 2010 season.

 Jorge Campillo-R- Royals Nov. 20 - 12:28 pm et

Royals signed RHP Jorge Campillo to a minor league contract.
Campillo, 31, posted a 1-0 record and 4.15 ERA in five games with the Braves this season before hitting the long-term disabled list with shoulder tendinitis. In 2008, he went 8-7 with a 3.91 ERA in 39 appearances (25 starts). It's not a bad signing for Kansas City, especially at such a low cost.
