 Troy Percival-R- RaysAug. 11 - 8:17 pm et
Troy Percival told reporters Tuesday that he is retired "unless something miraculous happens."
"There's no need going out when you can't throw more than once in four days," said Percival. "I know that I really can't go out there and do it." He tried to throw off a mound about a month ago, but the post-workout soreness was too much for the 40-year-old to handle.

Rays transferred RHP Troy Percival to the 60-day disabled list.
Percival is rehabbing from his latest shoulder injury at home in California. He's still considering retirement, and will have the rest of the 2009 season to make up his mind.
 Troy Percival-R - Rays May. 22 - 6:23 pm et

Troy Percival (shoulder tendinitis) is contemplating retirement after his latest injury placed him on the 15-day disabled list.
Percival has flown him to California to ponder his future, according to manager Joe Maddon. The 40-year-old closer hoped to return to form after an injury-riddled season in 2008, but he was a shadow of his former self. He is 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA to go along with a 1.68 WHIP and an opposition batting average of .305. He did have six saves this season with zero blown saves, but he could never shake the pain out of his shoulder. Should this be the end of the line, Percival will finish with 358 career saves.

 Troy Percival-R - Rays May. 22 - 4:57 pm et

Rays placed RHP Troy Percival on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis.
No word yet on who will get to close in his absence, though Jason Isringhausen and Dan Wheeler would seem to be the primary candidates.
 Joe Nelson-R - Red Sox May. 16 - 7:51 pm et

Joe Nelson pitched a perfect ninth inning Saturday to earn his second save of the season.
Troy Percival was given the night off after he was used in a high-scoring affair Friday night. Nelson certainly wouldn't be the Rays' first option if something happened to Percival, but he's been fantastic in two save opportunities this season and deserves a little credit.
