White Sox declined outfielder Jermaine Dye's $12 million option for 2010.
He'll get a $1 buyout in a no-brainer move for the team. Dye had a strong 2008 and hit .302/.375/.567 with 20 homers in the first half this season, but fell apart in the second half while batting just .179 with seven homers in 60 games. Dye has bounced back from huge slumps before, but at 35 years old time may be running out.

 Jermaine Dye-OF - White Sox Sep. 30 - 1:53 pm et

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the White Sox are unlikely to pick up Jermaine Dye's $12 million option for 2010.
It's not enormously surprising considering the 35-year-old's struggles in the second half -- just four of Dye's 27 homers have come since Aug. 1. It looks like he'll be a free agent this offseason.

Tuesday's game between the White Sox and Indians has been postponed due to inclement weather.
They'll play a traditional doubleheader on Tuesday, starting at 4:05 PM ET, with Carlos Torres opposing Justin Masterson in Game One.

Jermaine Dye homered twice in a loss to the Twins on Wednesday night.
Guess he finally realized he is playing for a contract. The homers were his first since August 30. Dye had just one extra-base hit and two RBI in 52 at-bats in September coming into Wednesday's action. He drove in four on Wednesday alone. After an excellent first-half, Dye has shrunk to a .180 batting average to go along with seven homers and 23 RBI since the All-Star break.

Jermaine Dye is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Twins.
Alex Rios will start in right field, with Scott Podsednik in center and Carlos Quentin in left. Dye had a monster first half, but is batting just .168/.276/.260 with five home runs and 19 RBI in 196 at-bats since the All-Star break. The White Sox were unlikely to bring him back next season anyway, but his lack of production in the second half makes it a virtual certainty.

According to ESPN.com, the White Sox have distributed a memo notifying opposing teams that veterans Jermaine Dye, Jim Thome and Scott Linebrink are available.
It would appear the White Sox -- 5 1/2 games behind the Tigers in the AL Central -- are throwing in the towel on the 2009 season. All three vets are likely to draw a good amount of interest, but the White Sox are probably most motivated to move Dye. He's a free agent this fall and they acquired outfielder Alex Rios in July. The deadline to work out a deal is Monday at midnight.
