 Troy Glaus-3B- BravesJan. 5 - 2:52 pm et
Braves signed third baseman Troy Glaus to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.
Glaus has a chance to earn additional incentives, some of which will be easily attainable. He is expected to be Atlanta's first baseman in 2010, but has only played six games there during his 12-year career. Glaus played in only 14 games this past year because of shoulder and back issues, but hit .270/.372/.483 in 2008 with 27 home runs and 99 RBI over 151 contests. He is very capable of a rebound. This is a nice low-risk signing by the Braves.

 Chipper Jones-3B - Braves Dec. 28 - 8:44 am et

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution believes that the Braves have at least $7 million left in their offseason budget.
The Braves shed the $11.5 million owed to Javier Vazquez last week and quickly nabbed Troy Glaus to play first base for around $2 million. They aren't done. Frank Wren is still considering another bat, possibly an Xavier Nady-type who can play left field and first base, or second baseman Dan Uggla, returning Martin Prado to his familiar super-utility role. According to O'Brien, the newly-acquired Melky Cabrera could be a trade chip in a possible deal for Uggla or an outfielder.

 Troy Glaus-3B - Braves Dec. 23 - 1:33 pm et

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Troy Glaus will earn a base salary around $2 million in his new contract with the Braves, with a chance for additional incentives.
Terms haven't been made official, but the Braves should have at least some breathing room to find a bat for their outfield, as well. The Glaus signing won't be official under after the holidays, as he'll have to undergo a physical. The Braves have done their due diligence leading up to the signing, and Glaus recently received a positive report on his surgically-repaired shoulder from Dr. Lewis Yocum, so the physical should be a mere formality. Glaus is expected to be Atlanta's first baseman in 2010, but has only played six games there during his 12-year career.

 Troy Glaus-3B - Braves Dec. 23 - 10:18 am et

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Braves studied Troy Glaus' medical records closely before offering him a deal.
As they should have. Glaus underwent shoulder surgery back in January of 2009 and was expected to be fully healthy by mid-May. He had multiple setbacks in his recovery and eventually developed a back issue which strung his rehab out for months. He didn't don a St. Louis uniform until late September and the 33-year-old played in only 14 total games this year.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com confirms that the Braves have agreed to terms with Troy Glaus on a one-year, incentive-laden contract.
Rosenthal has also been informed that Adam LaRoche will indeed not be back with the club because his asking price was far too high. Glaus, 33, will open the 2010 season as Atlanta's starting first baseman. He played in only 14 games this year due to shoulder and back issues, but hit .270/.372/.483 in 2008 with 27 home runs and 99 RBI over 151 contests.

 Troy Glaus-3B - Braves Dec. 23 - 9:22 am et

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Braves are close to a deal with free agent infielder Troy Glaus.
Glaus will play first base in Atlanta, according to Rosenthal, which makes sense considering the shoulder problems he dealt with this year. It also means that free agent Adam LaRoche probably won't be back. Glaus, 33, played in only 14 games in 2009 but hit .270/.372/.483 the year before with 27 home runs and 99 RBI. He seems plenty capable of a rebound.
