Nationals released LHP Odalis Perez.
Signed to a minor league contract two weeks ago, Perez decided he was upset about not getting a major league deal and has been holding out ever since. He didn't show up to Nationals camp by the mandatory reporting date and refused to return the team's calls, so they understandably decided to cut bait and move on. Look for Perez to wind up with another minor league deal, probably from a team less likely to hand him a rotation spot.

Odalis Perez still hadn't showed up at Nationals camp as of Sunday, the mandatory date for players to report to spring training.
Perez, who is holding out for a better deal after signing a non-guaranteed minor league contract earlier this month, is not currently returning the Nationals' calls. "We're taking the position obviously that we have an agreement with the player and we're expecting the player to honor the agreement," GM Jim Bowden said. "But we'd like to talk to him first, so we're going to wait until he calls us back and then we'll address the other options at that point."

Odalis Perez, who agreed to a minor league deal earlier this month to stay with the Nationals, won't report to camp unless he's given a better contract.
It's hard to blame Perez for not being thrilled about how the whole process went down this winter, but he's far from handling it correctly. "I thought it best and I prefer to sit in my house if the Nationals do not show more appreciation for my work," he said. "Appreciate my work means to increase the value of the contract and guarantee it. I will not accept any minor league contracts with no safeguards. I instructed my agent to report my position to the Nationals." Perez said he isn't talking with any other teams. Since he is technically under contract, even if he hasn't signed the agreement, no other teams are going to start talking to him.
