Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that Mark Prior (shoulder) plans to throw in front of teams at some point.
Don't hold your breath. Now 29 years old, Prior never saw the field during two years with the Padres and hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since August 10, 2006. The former first-round pick has become a cautionary tale for the likes of young phenoms like Stephen Strasburg.

Padres released RHP Mark Prior.
Prior hasn't picked up a baseball since April due to lingering discomfort in his shoulder and has not appeared in a major league game since August of 2006. The 28-year-old has a 3.51 career ERA.

According to Corey Brock of MLB.com, Mark Prior is expected to be released from his minor league contract.
It could happen as soon as today. In a post to Twitter, Brock notes that Prior hasn't thrown since April due to pain in his throwing shoulder. What else. He never contributed after signing with the Padres last season either. Believe it or not, Prior hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since August 10, 2006. Time flies.

Mark Prior reported feeling pain in his shoulder after a bullpen session Tuesday at the Padres' spring training complex.
Sounds about right. The Padres have instructed him to "take a step back" in his rehab, and it's not clear when he'll begin throwing again. "The poor guy just can't seem to get over the hump," said manager Bud Black. "He is doing everything possible for him to come back. ... I hope it works out for him."

Mark Prior indicated that he isn't working with any timetables as he attempts to make his way back from June shoulder surgery.
He did say he feels further along now than he did at this point last year. Prior thought he was close to making it back to the majors in June, when he had a major setback with his shoulder. "I'm 28 and no one knows what the future holds," Prior said. "If I can get back to 80 percent or 90 percent of what I used to be, then that's still pretty good. I look back to those three, four years in the big leagues and I pitched pretty well and did the things I had to do to help us win games. I don't know if those memories haunt me, but they motivate me."

Mark Prior, who underwent shoulder surgery last June, didn't throw batting practice as planned Saturday.
"We're going on how he feels," manager Bud Black said. "Here again, we're being cautious." Anything Prior gives the Padres this season would be seen as a huge bonus. They're surely not counting on him.
