Twins signed LHP Mike Maroth to a minor league contract.
The Twins also re-signed first baseman Brock Peterson to a minor league contract. Both received invites to Spring Training. Maroth, 32, is a former 14-game winner, but he hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2007 due to shoulder and knee surgeries. The Twins were impressed with his performance in Puerto Rican winter league, where he went 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in 28 innings.

Blue Jays released LHP Mike Maroth and RHP Rick Bauer.
Both had already been reassigned to minor league camp. Maroth, who is making his way back from shoulder surgery, made just one official appearance in Jays camp, giving up five runs in 2 2/3 innings.
 Brett Cecil-S - Blue Jays Mar. 15 - 2:55 pm et

Blue Jays reassigned LHP Brett Cecil, LHP Mike Maroth, LHP Ken Takahashi, OF Adam Loewen and 1B Brian Dopirak to minor league camp.
Cecil was the most impressive of the Jays' fourth- and fifth-starter candidates, but the team has decided against rushing him. He had a 3.09 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings. Maroth can opt out of his deal after making the team, but the smart move for him would be to go to Triple-A and pitch regularly. Loewen was 2-for-14 in his first spring as a position player.

Mike Maroth surrendered five runs -- four earned -- and seven hits in 2 2/3 innings against the Tigers on Saturday.
Maroth was making his first official start of the spring, though he's been pitching in games since March 2. He's a big long shot to win a spot in the Toronto rotation, especially with Matt Clement pitching quite a bit better than he is.
 Mike Maroth-S - Twins Mar. 3 - 5:06 pm et

Non-roster left-hander Mike Maroth yielded two runs in two innings Tuesday in his start against Canada.
Maroth was making his spring debut after being slowed by a sore knee. He allowed one hit, walked three and struck out three today. Maroth is a long shot to claim a spot in Toronto's rotation.
 Mike Maroth-S - Twins Feb. 24 - 10:25 am et

Mike Maroth threw off a mound Monday for the first time since suffering cartilage damage in his left knee.
Maroth threw just seven pitches, but is scheduled to test the injury further by tossing batting practice later this week.
