Mariners re-signed RHP Chad Cordero to a minor league contract.
Cordero is still attempting to come back from July 2008 labrum surgery. The former Nationals closer spent last season in the Mariners organization, pitching 14 1/3 innings in the minors. If Cordero's velocity returns, he could factor into the Mariners' late-inning plans this coming season.

Chad Cordero (shoulder) continues to throw bullpen sessions and extended spring training games, but no timetable has been set for his return.
"His velocity is still not where it was before," said manager Don Wakamatsu. "There is no pain, but it will be a while with Chad." Well, that's that.

Chad Cordero appeared in an extended spring training game Saturday.
Cordero (shoulder) is still eying an early June return, but the clock is ticking. "The velocity isn't there yet," said GM Jack Zduriencik. It's a process."

Chad Cordero (shoulder) is expected to throw batting practice Saturday.
Cordero is making slow, but steady, progress in his rehabilitation from July shoulder surgery. The Mariners are hopeful that he'll be able to help their bullpen sometime in late May. Seems reasonable.

Chad Cordero (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Monday.
Cordero had labrum surgery in July. The Mariners will likely take their time with him in the hopes he can bolster the bullpen sometime next month.

Chad Cordero (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Friday, but wasn't exactly pleased with the results.
Cordero isn't throwing at a full range of motion just yet. "It's frustrating because I know I'm able to do it. It's just when I get up on the mound I'm still trying to protect a little bit which I don't really need to do because it's pretty much healed," Cordero said Friday. "Once I get that out of my head, everything will be all right." He will remain at extended spring training once the team breaks camp and might not be ready until mid-May.
