Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that according to GM Doug Melvin and assistant Gord Ash, Casey McGehee "has taken the bull by the horns" with regard to the starting third base job in 2010.
Melvin said that moving Mat Gamel to the outfield is not likely, suggesting that Gamel could potentially be dealt for a pitcher this offseason. McGehee hit .301 with 16 homers and 66 RBI in 355 at-bats this season and should be a cheap source of infield production in next year's drafts.

Casey McGehee is scheduled to undergo surgery on his troublesome right knee after the end of the regular season.
McGehee will see some playing time in the final week, then it's off to the operating room. Team physician Dr. William Raasch will perform the surgery, which involves the removal of bone fragments from the infielder's right knee. He's expected to make a full recovery by the start of spring training.

Casey McGehee will have his troublesome right knee examined by a specialist on Monday's odd day.
McGehee is slated to finish the season in the lineup, but he may need surgery on the knee this winter. "We've been able to manage it pretty well," the rookie said. "We've done everything it takes to make sure I'm available every day. But we're getting down to the end and we have to get it re-evaluated to see where we're at and know exactly what we need to do going into the offseason."

Casey McGehee went 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI, leading his Brewers over the Diamondbacks 9-2 on Saturday night.
McGehee continues to draw playing time over Mat Gamel, and for good reason. He's hitting .306/.367/.522 this season with 15 home runs and 57 RBI, and deserves mention in the NL Rookie of the Year race.
