Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that Daisuke Matsuzaka is set to embark on an offseason conditioning program.
Abraham cites Gaku Tashiro of Sankei Sports, who says that Matsuzaka will soon leave for Japan. Upon his return to the United States in December, he is expected to take up residence in Arizona and work out at the Athletes' Performance Institute in Phoenix, Az. "It is not decided that I will be doing that in Arizona. But the facility seems to be an environment where I can really concentrate on my program," Matsuzaka said. "(Dustin) Pedoria was the one that introduced me." General manager Theo Epstein and the Red Sox have made Dice-K's offseason conditioning a top priority during the offseason, as he missed nearly three months in 2009 due to a right shoulder problem.

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein said Monday that he expects Daisuke Matsuzaka to show up in shape for the start of spring training next season.
"There are strong expectations that he shows up in February in fantastic shape on Day 1 of spring training next year," Epstein said. "I see it as a necessity, not really an option." The Red Sox clashed with Dice-K on his rehab methods this season. He missed close to three months with a shoulder issue and, in July, publicly blamed the club's training regimen for his fatigue issues. The Sox fired back with criticisms about his conditioning.

 Jon Lester-S - Red Sox Oct. 9 - 7:52 pm et

Red Sox manager Terry Francona acknowledged Friday that Jon Lester could start Game 4 against the Angels on three days' rest.
"There’s a decent chance," Francona said. "He threw 100 pitches. I think we’d like to bring him back." The Red Sox also want to have Josh Beckett available for Game 5. They're trying hard to avoid starting Daisuke Matsuzaka, who pitched well near the end of the season but had a 5.76 ERA overall.

Despite his strong finish to the regular season, Daisuke Matsuzaka is beginning the postseason in the bullpen.
"I think Daisuke’s done a terrific job," manager Terry Francona said. "And Daisuke may carry a very big load in this postseason. And that’s kind of what we told him. But for right now, he’s starting the postseason out in the bullpen. That could change in a hurry." Clay Buchholz is the third starter for now, but Matsuzaka clearly appears to be next in line should Buchholz falter.

Daisuke Matsuzaka yielded two runs over six innings in a 6-2 win over the Indians on Friday night.
Dice-K limited the Indians to just five hits while whiffing five and walking three. He is 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA over four starts since returning from the disabled list. The strong finish has lowered his ERA from 8.23 to 5.76 on the year. Though it's more likely he would factor in during a possible ALCS appearance, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could start Game 3 of the ALDS.

Daisuke Matsuzaka hurled seven innings of one-run ball Saturday afternoon in a tough-luck loss to the Yankees.
Dice-K got exactly zero support from his offense and was handed his sixth loss of the season. He looked excellent, though, striking out three batters and allowing just six hits. He still has some control issues to work out, but hopefully all will be well when October rolls around.
