Wes Welker underwent reconstructive surgery to repair the ACL in his left knee Tuesday, as expected.
Welker had to wait until the torn MCL was healed before he went under the knife. The surgery was 30 days from the original injury. Welker is aiming for a Week 1 return, which is highly optimistic. It's doubtful that he'll be close to 100 percent until mid-season.

 Wes Welker-WR - Patriots Jan. 30 - 11:43 am et

According to the Providence Journal, it's believed Wes Welker had planned to approach the Patriots about a potential pay raise prior to tearing his ACL and MCL in the team's regular season finale.
Welker has lost all leverage coming off reconstructive knee surgery. The NFL's annual receptions leader was severely underpaid prior to the injury, playing on a five-year, $18.1 million contract. He'll collect just over $2.2 million in 2010, but probably won't be ready to play until Week 6 or 7.

Wes Welker (torn ACL, MCL) is scheduled to have his knee reconstructed on Tuesday, February 2.
The swelling in Welker's knee has finally gone down enough for doctors to perform the procedure, but the four-week wait figures to cost him another month of next season. Doctors reportedly have not ruled Welker out for Week 1 of 2010, but the odds are stacked heavily against him being ready by then.

Wes Welker has yet to undergo reconstructive surgery on his left knee.
This isn't surprising. Welker has to wait for the torn MCL to fully heal before he begins surgery on the ACL. It's been 23 days since the injury, and he could need another 2-3 weeks before he goes under the knife.

Wes Welker confirmed that he will have to wait for his torn MCL to heal before he undergoes surgery to repair the torn ACL in his left knee.
Welker may have to wait another month, which would be another reason to doubt that he'll be even close to normal by Week 1 of the 2010 season. Spending the first six weeks of the season on the PUP list remains the most likely scenario.

Patriots placed WR/PR Wes Welker on injured reserve with a torn ACL and MCL, ending his season.
Welker finished 2009 as the No. 12 overall fantasy wideout in non-PPR leagues. He was top-five in PPR formats. The 28-year-old racked up a career-high and NFL-most 123 receptions for 1,348 yards and four touchdowns. It's unclear when Welker's knee reconstruction will take place, but he's a very poor bet to be ready for the start of 2010. His main assets -- cutting, shiftiness, and elusiveness -- may also be limited when he returns.
