 Brian Orakpo-LB- RedskinsAug. 3 - 3:10 pm et
The Redskins intend to use Brian Orakpo as a "buck" outside linebacker in their new 3-4 defense.
The Skins apparently believe Orakpo is a better cover 'backer than Andre Carter or Lorenzo Alexander, but this isn't great news for his chances of repeating double-digit sacks. It's a concern for Orakpo's IDP fantasy value.

 Brian Orakpo-LB - Redskins May. 19 - 10:39 am et

Brian Orakpo confirmed that he will be a full-time outside linebacker in the Redskins' new 3-4 scheme.
Orakpo had 11 sacks a year ago even though he was dropping back in coverage often. This year, he will be exclusively asked to rush the passer and make plays in the backfield. The second-year man will be a focal point of new coordinator Jim Haslett's defense.

 Brian Cushing-LB - Texans May. 12 - 2:32 pm et

Texans SLB Brian Cushing has retained his Defensive Rookie of the Year award after a re-vote by 50 writers for the Associated Press.
The outcome is surprising, but over the last two days it became increasingly evident that voters were bothered by the idea of a re-vote. The re-vote count, though, was much closer. Cushing received a whopping 39 first-place votes on the January 5 ballot. He garnered 18 votes this time. Bills S Jairus Byrd again finished second with 13 (he got six in January). Clay Matthews (10), Brian Orakpo (3), and James Laurinaitis (1) rounded out the re-vote's top five.

 Brian Cushing-LB - Texans May. 10 - 5:23 pm et

The Associated Press announced Monday that it will conduct a re-vote for the 2009 Defensive Player of the Year award, citing previous winner Brian Cushing's violation of the NFL's policy on PEDs.
Cushing is eligible in the re-vote, but he's not likely to win. His All-Pro status is also in danger of being stripped, as the AP will re-vote for one of its outside linebacker positions. Though Jairus Byrd finished second in Defensive ROY voting in the winter, we're betting third-place finisher Clay Matthews would edge him out considering Green Bay's finish to the season. Brian Orakpo, who had 11 sacks to Matthews' 10, may also be a serious contender.

 Brian Orakpo-LB - Redskins Apr. 19 - 11:32 am et

Brian Orakpo expects to be asked to rush the passer more in the Redskins' new 3-4 scheme.
Orakpo piled up 11 sacks and went to the Pro Bowl last season even though he split his time between pass rushing and coverage. Now entering his second year and focused on getting to the quarterback, he has the potential to push the league leaders in sacks.

 Redskins Defense-TM - Redskins Jan. 15 - 4:45 pm et

Redskins named Jim Haslett defensive coordinator.
We've known about the hire for three days, but the move didn't become official until Friday. Haslett is expected to incorporate 3-4 alignments into a Skins defense that has been a 4-3 for as long as we can remember. Brian Orakpo and Andre Carter figure to be the outside linebackers. Albert Haynesworth could play five-technique end or nose tackle. We'll know the Redskins are serious about the 3-4 if they invest in players that fit the scheme this spring.
