Mariners transferred LHP Erik Bedard from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Bedard is out for the rest of the season and likely the first month of 2010 as he recovers from a torn labrum and inflamed bursa. The Bedard trade has been nothing but a disaster for Seattle since the day the trade was made.

Impending free agent Erik Bedard indicated Saturday evening that he'd like to return to Seattle next season.
It might be his only option. Bedard underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn labrum and inflamed bursa and is expected to miss the first month of the regular season. Teams aren't likely to take a chance on him, just as they didn't on Ben Sheets. "I think anybody can come back from anything," Bedard said. "I'm going to do my best to come back and that's that."

According to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times, the Mariners haven't ruled out signing Erik Bedard (shoulder) to a contract extension.
Probably because he's going to come at a discount. Bedard underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn labrum and inflamed bursa. He's expected to miss most of spring training and might not be ready for Opening Day 2010. An extension would allow him to rehab under the watch of team physicians.

Erik Bedard won't resume pitching for another four-to-six months after exploratory surgery on Friday revealed a torn labrum and inflamed bursa.
Bedard could miss the early part of the 2010 season, as he'll need a good amount of rehab to recover from both repairs. He is a free agent this winter, which is sure to make things interesting. Any team that signs him will be assuming a good amount of risk. He may have to settle for a short-term deal.

Erik Bedard will undergo exploratory surgery on his left shoulder on Friday.
This likely ends Bedard's season. Dr. Lewis Yocum will probe the area in surgery to see if there are structural problems with Bedard's bursa sac area. Yocum will also check on labrum fraying to investigate if there is more serious damage. Bedard's career with the Mariners may well be over.

Erik Bedard will have his shoulder examined in Los Angeles Wednesday by Dr. Lewis Yocum, the doctor who preformed his latest shoulder surgery.
An MRI on his troublesome right shoulder Friday revealed "fraying." Yocum will be able to provide a clearer diagnosis, but Bedard is still a longshot to pitch again this season. Another procedure is a possibility.

Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said Friday that "it's probably a longshot" Erik Bedard will pitch again this season.
Bedard felt a little discomfort in his shoulder during a bullpen session Tuesday and an MRI revealed "fraying." He may be headed for surgery. "I think so much of it depends on what they find if they decide to go in there (in a surgery)," said the general manager. "If they go in there, who knows the degree of whatever is in there. That will determine how long he'll be out."

Erik Bedard (shoulder) experienced discomfort in his shoulder after Tuesday's bullpen session and will get an MRI on Friday to determine the cause of it.
Any chance the club had of moving Bedard by the end of this month probably just went up in smoke. Manager Don Wakamatsu said that Bedard will have to go on a rehab assignment before returning to the team. His ETA has been pushed back by at least a week. Geoff Baker, a beat writer from the Seattle Times, is not optimistic about Bedard's prognosis, writing: "...if I was a betting man, which I'm not, I'd say the odds are better than even that he's thrown his final pitch of 2009. We'll see." Stay tuned.

Erik Bedard (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday.
The Mariners will determine his next rehab step Wednesday morning. "If we have the same discomfort [in the morning], we'll have him checked out," manager Don Wakamatsu said. The left-hander is eligible to return on August 10, but obviously isn't going to be ready by that date.

Erik Bedard played a "vigorous" game of catch Sunday, according to MLB.com.
Bedard reported no pain or discomfort in his troublesome left shoulder and will ramp up his rehab efforts this week. "We'll push him a little more and if he feels good we'll continue down this path," said Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu. The left-hander is eligible for activation on August 10.

Erik Bedard was unable to throw a planned bullpen session Wednesday due to lingering soreness in his left shoulder.
"[Head trainer] Rick [Griffin] felt he’s better off letting the medicine kick in a little bit and give him a little more time," manager Don Wakamatsu said Wenesday. "He going to throw Friday, but he’s improving and feeling better." Bedard was placed on the disabled list earlier this week.

Mariners placed LHP Erik Bedard on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation.
It looks like the plan is for Bedard to return after missing two starts, but given his history of shoulder problems, it'd be no surprise to see him experience a couple of setbacks. If he returns in August as hoped, then he could be put right on the trade block. After all, he's a free agent at season's end and he won't bring back and a draft pick after missing most of 2008.

The Mariners have reportedly placed Erik Bedard on the DL with shoulder inflammation.
It sounds like the Mariners are hoping to get him back after 15 days. "At this point, we're not going to do an MRI," manager Don Wakamatsu said. "He's on some other anti-inflammatories and then we'll see. We'll try to get him to throw in about three or four days. And we'll see if that medication kicks in a little bit. If that kicks in, then there's no need." The move will clear a roster spot for Jason Vargas, today's starting pitcher.

According to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times, Mariners officials believe there may be something physically wrong with Erik Bedard.
With the trade deadline looming, it's not a great time for this kind of news to come out. Bedard lasted just three innings Saturday, surrendering two earned runs and four walks. "I know he doesn't want to say that anything's bothering him," manager Don Wakamatsu said in his post-game press conference. "But we'll find out tomorrow in more detail." An MRI may be planned.

Erik Bedard worked 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs Sunday in the Mariners' 5-3 win over the Rangers.
Unfortunately, Bedard didn't get the win, as Miguel Batista blew the lead in the sixth and then vultured the victory. Bedard was effectively wild, walking four and striking out five before being removed from his second start since coming off the DL.

Erik Bedard struck out eight while allowing two runs in four innings against the Orioles in his first start back from the disabled list on Tuesday.
Not surprisingly, Bedard was on a pitch count. He looked good against his former team, tossing 46 of 72 pitches for strikes, walking one and hitting a batter. He struck out the side in the second inning. Needless to say, he's safe to activate.

Mariners activated LHP Erik Bedard from the 15-day disabled list.
Bedard will return to the Mariners' starting rotation Tuesday. He'll be held to a pitch count of 75-85 pitches, but should be activated in most leagues. The left-hander was 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA, 65 strikeouts and a 1.16 WHIP before landing on the disabled list with a shoulder issue. Designated hitter Mike Sweeney was placed on the 15-day DL in a corresponding move.

Erik Bedard is on track to return from the disabled list to pitch Tuesday.
Bedard has been out since June 7 with shoulder inflammation. He will be held to a pitch count of 75-85 against his former team. The injury derailed a solid comeback season for the lefty as he was 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA, 65 strikeouts and 1.16 WHIP. He will try to get back on track, but wins will be harder to come by with a low pitch count.

Erik Bedard threw 54 pitches in a simulated game and is scheduled to start Tuesday.
"He looked as good as I've seen him," manager Don Wakamatsu said. Bedard should provide a boost to Seattle, or should they fall out of the race, another contending team.

Erik Bedard (shoulder) is slated to come off the disabled and start Tuesday, July 7 against the Orioles.
The M's originally had Bedard scheduled to pitch Saturday but decided to allow him to throw a simulated game Friday instead. He's expected to be on a pitch count of 75-80 for Tuesday's game. If he does well in his two starts before the All-Star break, Bedard could become a hot item on the trade market.
