 Vernon Davis-TE- 49ersFeb. 10 - 10:54 am et
Beat writer Matt Maiocco says that Vernon Davis' numbers can definitely get better.
Maiocco points out that this was Davis' first year in a new offense and he'll be more comfortable in the scheme next season. That could lead to a higher percentage of passes that come his way being completed. Davis was the No. 1 fantasy tight end in 2009 thanks to his 13 touchdowns, but he can clearly improve on his 965 yards. There's upside here.

 Mark Roman-DB- 49ersFeb. 10 - 10:38 am et
Beat writer Matt Barrows says there's a "solid chance" that impending unrestricted free agent S Mark Roman will be back with the Niners in 2010.
Roman will be 33 next month and will find that there's not much of a market out there for him. Michael Lewis struggled with concussions and the Niners could use Roman as cheap insurance.

 Tony Pashos-T- 49ersFeb. 10 - 10:34 am et
All signs point toward OT Tony Pashos playing for the Redskins next season, according to 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows.
Pashos' former position coach, Chris Foerster, is now with the Redskins and in desperate need of linemen. Owner Dan Snyder can outbid/overpay anyone, and the Redskins need Pashos more than the Niners do. Pashos, 30, would be an immediate upgrade over Stephon Heyer, at least in terms of run blocking.

 Aubrayo Franklin-DL- 49ersFeb. 10 - 10:29 am et
Beat writer Matt Barrows expects the Niners to retain NT Aubrayo Franklin with the franchise tag.
No surprise here. Franklin is one of the more underrated defensive linemen in the game, helping to free up Patrick Willis for all those tackles. We could get an idea of the team's long-term plans for Franklin by what they do in the draft.

 Arnaz Battle-WR- 49ersFeb. 10 - 10:25 am et
Beat writer Matt Barrows doesn't expect impending unrestricted free agent Arnaz Battle to be back with the Niners in 2010.
Even Battle himself has already admitted that he thinks he's moving on. The Niners top four receivers (Michael Crabtree, Josh Morgan, Brandon Jones, Jason Hill) are set and the fifth receiver would ideally be someone with explosive returning skills.

 Brooks Foster-WR- RamsFeb. 10 - 10:21 am et
Rams WR Brooks Foster (ankle surgery) will be good to go for the start of spring minicamps.
Foster projects as nothing more than a backup slot receiver. He'll likely have to show something on special teams to make the 2010 roster.

 Marion Barber-RB- CowboysFeb. 10 - 10:02 am et
Cowboys beat writer Todd Archer is the latest reporter to predict Felix Jones will get more carries than Marion Barber in 2010.
Virtually everyone around the Cowboys has already said as much. According to Archer, Barber "doesn't seem to have that burst anymore and he doesn't break as many tackles." Combine that with Felix Jones' impressive playoff showing and it's easy to see why so many people are down on Barber.

 Antonio Cromartie-DB- ChargersFeb. 10 - 9:56 am et
Cowboys beat writer Todd Archer says there is "zero truth" to the Tashard Choice-for-Antonio Cromartie trade rumors.
We don't even know where the inital rumor even came from. It only makes sense for the Chargers, who need a lead tailback and are shopping their underachieving corner. Choice is seemingly "stuck" as a third-stringer, but the Cowboys need him with Marion Barber apparently breaking down. They are also not in immediate need of a defensive back that can't tackle. These rumors may persist because of Wade Phillips' San Diego ties with Cromartie, but look for the Cowboys to shop Barber first, if any of their backs truly go on the trade block.

 Michael Vick-QB- EaglesFeb. 10 - 9:24 am et
Michael Vick admitted that he was "complacent" and "somewhat lazy" when he was playing for the Falcons.
Vick says he should have done more in the film room and off the field. He added that he's back to his old-school workouts, and feels strong and fast. We still expect the Eagles to trade or release Vick before his March 5 roster bonus comes due. St. Louis has emerged as the most likely landing spot.

 Ryan Grant-RB- PackersFeb. 10 - 9:00 am et
Ryan Grant said he wants to be more involved in the passing game.
Grant has always struggled as a receiver; he lost his job at Notre Dame to the more versatile Darius Walker under pass-first Charlie Weis. Grant sees the writing on the wall with Green Bay going pass heavy, but he's unlikely to suddenly acquire soft hands and route running skills. Going forward, Grant should realize his primary strength is downhill running, and hone it.

 Ryan Pickett-DL- PackersFeb. 10 - 8:51 am et
Impending unrestricted free agent NT Ryan Pickett confirmed that he wants to stay in Green Bay.
"Hopefully we can get something done because I love it here," said Pickett, who was the anchor for Green Bay's No. 1 run defense in 2009. It's already been reported that re-signing Pickett is among the Packers' top priorities, so it sounds like a deal should be hammered out. Free agency opens on March 5.

 Anquan Boldin-WR- CardinalsFeb. 10 - 8:35 am et
Two people in contact with the Dolphins could "envision" the team offering a draft pick for Anquan Boldin, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
The pick would be a third-rounder or later. Jackson is a columnist -- not a reporter -- but this is the second time in a week we've heard substantial rumors about Boldin and the Dolphins. Boldin is big and as tough as they come, fitting VP of football operations Bill Parcells' profile, and would fill a glaring need as a play-making No. 1 receiver for Chad Henne. Jackson adds that the Dolphins aren't interested in Brandon Marshall.

 Tim Tebow-QB- PlayerFeb. 9 - 10:17 pm et
NFL Network's Mike Mayock believes Tim Tebow can develop into a quarterback who can "win football games" in the NFL in 2-3 years.
Our favorite draft analyst guesses that Tebow will be a second-round pick, but he'd advise holding off until the third because of the time needed to fix the Florida QB's throwing motion and footwork. Per Profootballtalk.com, Mayock added: "If you're ever going to take a chance on a kid, this is the kid."

 Walter Jones-T- SeahawksFeb. 9 - 8:16 pm et
The Seahawks are still unsure of LT Walter Jones' plans for 2010.
Jones announced "it is time for me to retire from football" on Twitter Sunday, but he's publicly stated that he wants to keep playing if possible. While he's supposedly exchanged communication with the front office this week, the team has yet to "reconfirm" Jones' plans.

 John Bowie-DB- BrownsFeb. 9 - 7:44 pm et
Browns signed CB John Bowie to a reserve/future contract.
A 2007 fourth-round pick by the Raiders, Bowie has intriguing speed but can't stay healthy. He's played in just five games the past three years.

 Greg Olsen-TE- BearsFeb. 9 - 7:40 pm et
Greg Olsen didn't handle his blocking duties well in 2009, according to "multiple scouts who watched the Bears regularly."
The news isn't surprising since Olsen has always been lauded much more for his receiving ability. It's a significant concern for 2010, though, since Mike Martz won't be using nearly as many two-tight end sets as Ron Turner did. It's yet another reason to dock Olsen's fantasy outlook under Martz.

 Felix Jones-RB- CowboysFeb. 9 - 7:22 pm et
According to beat writer Tim MacMahon, the Cowboys' "easy decision" in the backfield is to make Felix Jones the "lead horse."
MacMahon believes Marion Barber may "already be wearing down" and that his struggles in short yardage are a "serious concern." The team is expected be open to trading either Barber or Tashard Choice this offseason, but they may be hesitant to pull the trigger after all three backs missed time with injuries in 2009. For a team that has the look of a serious contender, the backfield depth is more necessity than luxury.

 Donte' Stallworth-WR- BrownsFeb. 9 - 6:20 pm et
Updating a previous item, Profootballtalk.com reports Donte' Stallworth will work out for the Lions Wednesday.
The Lions presumably see Stallworth as an upgrade on Bryant Johnson as the No. 2 receiver. His 17 receptions for 170 yards in 11 games with the Browns two years ago suggest that may no longer be the case.

 Steven Jackson-RB- RamsFeb. 9 - 5:41 pm et
Las Vegas police cited a lack of evidence in closing the assault case against Steven Jackson brought on by allegations from his former girlfriend.
Detectives talked to all parties involved after Jackson was accused of beating his then-pregnant girlfriend, who is now the mother of his young son. With insufficient evidence, the investigation is complete and the case closed. Jackson, who had vigorously denied the accusations, is not expected to be punished by the league.

 Jeff Webb-WR- ChiefsFeb. 9 - 5:36 pm et
The Ravens worked out former Chiefs WR Jeff Webb last week.
The Ravens have a need at receiver, but Webb isn't the answer with iffy hands and a lack of both deep speed and after-the-catch ability.
