 Jonathan Toews-C- BlackhawksNov. 20 - 4:32 pm et
The Chicago Blackhawks are trying to work out some salary cap issues before they can make the contract extensions of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith final.
The team needs to work out available tagging space for next season to get these new deals under their cap, so a trade may have to be worked out before the contracts are officially announced. The Hawks are reportedly shopping Brent Sopel and his $2.33 million cap hit for this year and next season, but that could be a difficult sale. Stay tuned.

 Semyon Varlamov-G- CapitalsNov. 20 - 4:12 pm et
It appears as though Semyon Varlamov will get the nod in goal for Washington on Friday.
He was the first goalie off the ice at practice on Friday morning. It is also uncertain if Jose Theodore will be able to play in the next few games for the Capitals. Coach Bruce Boudreau said the team is considering the notion of starting Michal Neuvirth if Theodore is unable to play. We will keep you posted.

 Matt Pettinger-W- CanucksNov. 20 - 4:02 pm et
Matt Pettinger has been placed on waivers.
Oddly enough, he will play for Vancouver on Friday night against the Avalanche. The move was made to make room for the pending return of Daniel Sedin to the Canucks' lineup. "I kind of knew what the understanding was," Pettinger said. "Obviously they had a lot of injuries and a lot of them are healthy now. I thought I did a fairly good job and, with the converstions I had with them, they were happy, too. I'll find out tomorrow what my options are and move on from there."

 Alexander Steen-C- BluesNov. 20 - 3:51 pm et
Alexander Steen (wrist) has been given the green light to play again.
He has missed the team's last 14 games after suffering a broken wrist back on October 15th and is returning slightly ahead of schedule. "Originally, it sounded a lot longer, and then I was in there every five or six (days) getting X-rays and seeing the progression and how well it was healing," Steen said. "Yesterday, I was hoping that they would clear me and they did." He practiced on Friday in contact drills, but coach Andy Murray would not guarantee he would be back in the lineup on Saturday night. Stay tuned.

 Alex Pietrangelo-D- BluesNov. 20 - 3:47 pm et
The Blues appear as though they will be keeping young defender Alex Pietrangelo on their roster.
He played in his ninth game of the season on Thursday and after he skates in 10 games the first year of his contract goes into effect. St. Louis may still decide to return him to junior though after he exceeds the 10-game mark, but they will cross that bridge if the situation arises. For now, it looks like he will stay with the big club for the remainder of the year. Stay tuned for updates.

 Mark Eaton-D- PenguinsNov. 20 - 3:38 pm et
Mark Eaton (back) was able to play in Thursday's game against Ottawa.
He was listed as questionable prior to the contest due to back spams. However, he skated for 22:35 of ice time in Pittsburgh's 6-2 loss to the Senators, while finishing with a minus-1 rating. Pittsburgh defense has been devastated by injury, so having Eaton in the lineup was some good news for them.

 Shean Donovan-W- SenatorsNov. 20 - 3:31 pm et
Shean Donovan may be out for the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury on Thursday against Pittsburgh.
"It's his MCL (medial collateral ligament) for sure and he's having an MRI to see if it's the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), too. We won't know until tomorrow," said Senators' GM Bryan Murray. He was hurt after a knee-on-knee collision with Penguins' forward Matt Cooke. Stay tuned.

Martin Biron will be in goal for the Islanders on Friday against the Wild.
Biron has posted a 2-5-2 record this season on Long Island with a .913 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average. New York plays again on Saturday night and it is likely Dwayne Roloson will start that game versus the Blues.

 Brendan Witt-D- IslandersNov. 20 - 3:22 pm et
Brendan Witt (healthy scratch) will not play on Friday night.
Witt rejoined the team on Friday and skated after being given some time off to take care of some personal matters. It is unclear if he will suit up for the team on Saturday as well, but should be back in the lineup on Monday. In the meantime, Andrew MacDonald will continue to fill in for Witt.

 Pavel Datsyuk-C- Red WingsNov. 20 - 3:05 pm et
Coach Mike Babcock has not been pleased with the line of Todd Bertuzzi, Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom.
"That line hasn't been very good," said the Wings' bench boss. "Pav, Bert and Homer haven't been as good. They turn the puck over way too much and haven't had enough substance playing in the offensive zone. For Homer to score goals and be effective, they gotta be on the grind in that zone, and he's gotta be at the net. That's a key for him." Holmstrom has one goal in his last six games; Datsyuk has four points in the past six contests; and Bertuzzi has six points in his last 12 games. The trio is expected to stay together though and try to work out their problems.

 Kristian Huselius-W- Blue JacketsNov. 20 - 2:56 pm et
Kristian Huselius has six points in three games since returning to Columbus lineup from a shoulder injury.
"Kristian is skating so much better," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "When he's skating, he's a very effective player for us." Huselius netted two goals, with one coming shorthanded and the other being on the power play, in the Blue Jackets' 4-1 win over Dallas on Thursday. He also added an assist in the contest.

 Toni Lydman-D- SabresNov. 20 - 2:34 pm et
Toni Lydman will return to the Buffalo lineup on Friday night.
He skated with Steve Montador in the morning skate and will take the place of Andrej Sekera on the Sabres' blueline. Lydman was just cleared to play earlier this week after recovering from a groin injury, but sat out Wednesday's game as a healthy scratch.

 Tim Thomas-G- BruinsNov. 20 - 2:29 pm et
Coach Claude Julien said that the Bruins may not name a starting goaltender for Friday's contest until very close to puck drop.
Tim Thomas served as Tuukka Rask's backup on Thursday night due a minor undisclosed injury, but took the pre-game warm-up and could be ready to play against the Sabres. If for whatever reason he cannot play then Rask will be in goal for the second time in consecutive nights.

 Ryan Malone-W- LightningNov. 20 - 12:18 pm et
Ryan Malone is on a five game point-scoring streak.
He has three goals and six assists during that stretch and now has 12 goals and 21 points in 19 games this season. He has formed great chemistry with Steven Stamkos and we don't see any reason for either one's production to fall off.
