Injuries & Suspensions: Week 2

Friday, August 23, 2013

Our look at the week's team news, and the fantasy impacts thereof.

Fulham v Arsenal

Our early kick off, so if you're interested in any of these players, you should have the opportunity to see the line-up before the game locks down.

Fulham could hand debuts to signings Scott Parker and Darren Bent, but Maarten Stekelenburg, Fernando Amorebieta, and Kieran Richardson are out.

Arsenal will have Laurent Koscielny suspended, and with Thomas Vermaelen still injured, Bacary Sagna may be pressed into service alongside Per Mertesacker. That would mean a start for Carl Jenkinson at right back.

Up front, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is injured but Santi Cazorla could start. Lukas Podolski would be likely continue on the bench.

Everton v West Brom

Sylvain Distin and Darron Gibson are doubts, so Johnny Heitinga could come in, and Ross Barkley seems likely to keep his place in the side. THe latter scored a great goal against Norwich last week, and is still just 1.99 in the Yahoo! game and 4.6 in the official one.

Nicolas Anelka misses out after his friend's (or agent's, depending on reports) death, but new signing Scott Sinclair could feature.

Hull v Norwich

Former Spurs pair Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore could start for Hull City with Robert Koren and David Meyler candidates to drop out.

Robert Snodgrass will likely replace Elliott Bennett in midfield. Leroy Fer is also likely to start after being suspended for last weekend's match. He could play off Ricky van Wolfswinkel with Gary Hooper still out. Sebastien Bassong and Anthony Pilkington are back in training and while Norwich would love to have them involved, it may still be too soon.

Newcastle v West Ham

Newcastle need a good start in front of their home fans, but will be without Steven Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez. Paul Dummett may come in at left back if Davide Santon is still not match fit, allowing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa to partner Fabriccio Colocinni. Sylvain Marveaux and Sammy Ameobi will vie to replace Gutierrez. It remains to be seen if want-away midfield Yohan Cabaye will be considered.

For West Ham, Andy Carroll misses out again, but Razvan Rat and Stewart Downing could feature.

Southampton v Sunderland

New signing Pablo Osvaldo is likely to be on the bench. Calum Chambers should keep his place with Nathaniel Clyne returning from injury.

Sunderland could be unchanged, though Craig Gardner is back from suspension and could feature in midfield or defence.

Stoke v Crystal Palace

Stoke could also be unchanged after a decent showing at Liverpool.

Jason Puncheon could debut for Crystal Palace.

Aston Villa v Liverpool

Ciaran Clark should be available after leaving the Chelsea match with a head injury, but Nathan Baker remains doubtful. Villa could turn to new signing Jores Okore if Clark doesn't make it.

Aly Cissokho could be in contention for Liverpool who will likely be unchanged from their opening day victory against Stoke.

Cardiff v Man City

New striker Andreas Cornelius could make his debut for Cardiff while Andrew Taylor is available after suspension.

Vincent Kompany misses out. Matija Nastasic is on standby to replace him if he has recoverd from his own ankle injury, or Javi Garcia could be forced to play at the back. Stevan Jovetic could also be back from injury.

Tottenham v Swansea

Both these teams played full-strength sides in the Europa League this week, so rotation could be a factor. Ben Davies and Jonathan de Guzman may feature for Swansea.

Spurs could be unchanged, but Etienne Capoue and Andros Townsend may come into contention with big performances of late.

Man United v Chelsea

It's a bit of a shame that this match comes so early in the season. The big storyline with be around Wayne Rooney, and if he'll start, or be a substitute, against the club that wants to buy him. Phil Jones should continue at right back.

David Luiz is still unavailable for Chelsea so the back four could be the same again. Up front, it's Romelu Lukaku's turn to start but likely Fernando Torres is restored to the forward role. Juan Mata is still unable to complete 90 minutes and could be back on the bench with Kevin De Bruyne likely to come in his place.
