Gameweek 7

Gameweek 6 was one that required a bit of horn tooting on my part. I dished out some advice, and if you took it, you avoided those pesky land mines. At keeper for example, did you save 5m, and opt for Boruc and his 10 points or did you remain stubborn and opt for De Gea and his -4 points despite my warning that WBA were looking a threat with their new signings? I won't gloat long. I can't. There's every chance my advice this week will make me look foolish. The purpose of this article is to take a look at some popular prospects you may want to avoid this week for one reason or another, along with some viable alternatives:

Goalkeeper

Petr Cech (Chelsea) - It's not that I don't fancy Chelsea's chances of keeping a clean sheet at Carrow Road, I just think to be safe here, it's better to invest in a Chelsea defender instead. Defenders like John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic are comparatively priced to Cech and I can see some attacking returns from one of their defenders this week. I am always looking to spend as little as possible at keeper.

Alternative:  My recommendation is to choose Hugo Lloris between the sticks as Tottenham host Wes Ham United. However, I want to offer a secondary option as Lloris is currently the most owned keeper in the game as it seems you managers have already jumped on this selection. So, if perhaps the rest of your XI is rock solid and you dont have quite the just under 11m to spend on Lloris, my budget pick is Fulham's David Stockdale as they host Stoke City. Martin Jol's job is on the line in this one and I think the Cottagers come good in this one. Again though, only as a desperation option if funds are tight.

Defender

Jose Fonte (Southampton) - This advice is for Southampton defenders in general, Fonte was selected for being the highest owned Saints defender. Yes they kept another clean sheet last week and are again at home this week to a mid table side. However, I am fully backing Swansea City and their ability to win the possesion battle. Wilfried Bony appears to be finding his rhythm along with Michu and the rest of the Swansea attack and I fully expect them to bounce back from the defeat against Arsenal last week to at least earn a goal and a draw in this one.

Alternative: Take your pick of Mamadou Sakho or Kolo Toure as Liverpool host Crystal Palace this weekend. Toure is the popular option, one of the highest owned defenders, but Sakho came straight in to Brendan Rodgers' XI and once Glen Johnson is fit, a decision will need to be made as to which will be the 4th to join the line of Johnson, Agger, and Enrique. With bench options now in the Yahoo game, you could get cheeky and opt for both, bench one, and feel confident that one of the two will start and you will have them. Sakho and Toure together are still priced cheaper than Glen Johnson!

Midfielder

Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United) - Not to get too Shakespearean on you but something is rotten in the city of Manchester, especially at Old Trafford. What better cure for David Moyes and his side's woes than a battle with bottom of the table Sunderland? In reality, this fixture should get the club back on track--were they to lose this, Moyes will be exiled for fear of his life. In fantasy, this midfield is a hot mess. Fellaini's ownership is way too high right now. He's not playing in the hole at Goodison Park anymore folks. He is warming the bench half the match and is influencing little when on the pitch. Get him out of your squad until if/when his role becomes clear and prosperous.

Alternative: Hi. I'm the gentleman who recommended Robbie Brady to you here in this spot last week. I am a member of the Brady Bunch and would love to tout his name every week. Alas, he has a groin problem. He will miss out on this one. Instead, let's get a nice cheap world class player in this week in the form of Christian Eriksen.  The nimble-footed Spur disappointed in fantasy returns last week with his -1 score, but if you didn't use him, I'm telling you it's a blessing. He still looked, and will be going forward, a powerful threat in the Tottenham attack and I believe by season's end, if going by points per game, he will be among the leaders. He's still only a mouth-watering 6.64m.

Attacker

Romelu Lukaku (Everton) - Does anyone else have a theory as to why Mourinho loaned Lukaku off? And not to a middling West Brom side, but a side challenging for a Europa League spot or more in Everton? It must be because of the endless supply of better strikers to choose from.....oh wait, Lukaku was their best striker. Got me folks. Anyway, Lukaku will be a dynamo for Everton this season and should be a consideration for your squad almost every week, just not this one.  Away to the Etihad, and a furious Man City side coming off an embarrassing loss to a Benteke-less Aston Villa, I think managers would do well and refrain this week from choosing the young Belgian.

Alternative: Usually a land mine explodes when bringing in the wrong players. For my final piece of advice this week, it is more about the potential land mine of NOT including a player in your XI. You know him, you can hate the player, but you can't hate the game.  Luis Suarez is back, and it took no time at all to show his abilities, which for me are second to none in the Premier League right now.  That includes the likes of Rooney, RVP and Aguero, and of course Bale is gone. Yes 25m is a ton to spend on one player. Do it. Be quick about it. Don't be once bitten, twice shy about it.   (Sorry, I had to.)
