The 2014 Rotoworld PL Cup

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

The 2014 Rotoworld PL Cup is here ...

700 teams, six rounds, ONE winner!

So what is it? Well, at set points throughout the season we will have game-weeks where the top weekly scores from our seven Rotoworld PL Private Leagues (in the Yahoo Fantasy Premier League game) go through to the "next round". It's a knock-out, so once you're out, you're out.

All 700 teams in the Rotoworld PL Private Leagues have a place in this competition. If you didn't get a space there are a few spaces left in the final league so be very, very quick ...

If this league is filled by 12:00GMT on Saturday 18th January then 700 teams will take part. Please DO NOT JOIN LEAGUE 7 if you are already in League 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Thank you.

I've outlined the 2014 Rotoworld PL Cup schedule below:

1st Round - Week 22 (this week) - From the 700 entrants the top 600 teams based on weekly scores across all seven Rotoworld PL Private Leagues go through to 2nd round. 100 teams go out.

2nd Round - Week 25 - The top 450 teams based on weekly scores from the remaining 600 teams go through to 3rd round. 150 teams go out.

3rd Round - Week 28 - The top 350 teams based on weekly scores from the remaining 450 teams go through to 4th round. 100 teams go out.

4th Round - Week 31 - The top 200 teams based on weekly scores from the remaining 350 teams go through to semi final. 150 teams go out.

Semi Final - Week 34 - The top 100 teams based on weekly scores from the remaining 200 teams go through to final. 100 teams go out.

Final - Week 37 - The manager with the top weekly score from the 100 finalists wins the Rotoworld Cup. If we have a tie on the top weekly score then we will have a play-off in Week 38.

The results of each round will be posted here on Rotoworld within 5 days of a round's conclusion.

ROTOWORLD PL CUP PRIZES

The winner of the 2014 Rotoworld PL Cup will of course win the respect of his fellow fantasy managers, but we have some additional prizes on offer thanks to Rotoworld. Details below ...

The winner gets both Draft Guide AND Season Pass (Rotoworld premium products) access to all four sports (NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA) for the next upcoming season.

The runner-up gets a combination of two Rotoworld premium products for the upcoming season. For example, you could chose NFL Draft Guide AND NFL Season Pass, or NFL Draft Guide AND MLB Season Pass. It's your choice how you mix it up.

The manager with the highest weekly total in each of the first five rounds gets one Rotoworld premium product of their choice for the upcoming season.

As people often change their team name throughout the season we'll be tracking teams by their Yahoo IDs. Only teams who are in a Rotoworld PL Private League when the Round 1 results are compiled can take part - if a team drops out of a league after Round 1 then the team replacing them in the league does NOT take their place in the Cup.

In the event of any of the above weeks / rounds being an international break week (meaning no Premier League games) then the round will be moved to the following weekend.

It is always the Top 500 / 400 / 300 / 200 / 100 teams who go through to the next round, with one exception. In the event of teams being tied on weekly points at the cut-off (e.g. Round 1 - if the 500th, 501st and 502nd teams are all tied on the same weekly total) then all tied teams would go through to the next round.

Those who follow Never Manager Alone, and my old AM blog will know the Cup competitions have always worked really well in the past so I hope people are looking forward to taking part in the first one on Rotoworld. We think it makes things interesting as it's nothing to do with Overall Position, it's purely based on your weekly score in the selected week, so it gives players who are not doing too well the chance to have one-off weekends where they score big whilst a top player has a bad week ... fantasy giant killing!

I'll make it clear on the lead up to each round whether it's a Cup Weekend to remind you.

Round 1 is Week 22, THIS WEEKEND. The teams with the top 600 weekly scores in the Rotoworld PL Private Leagues will go through to Round 2. Everyone else will be knocked out.

ROTOWORLD PL PRIVATE LEAGUE PRIZES

At the end of the season, the individual overall top scorer across all seven Rotoworld PL Private Leagues will also get both Draft Guide AND Season Pass (Rotoworld premium products) access to of all four sports (NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA) for the next upcoming season.

The winners of the remaining Rotoworld PL Private Leagues get a combination of two Rotoworld premium products for the upcoming season. For example, you could chose NFL Draft Guide AND Season Pass, or NFL Draft Guide AND MLB Season Pass. It's your choice how you mix it up.

Good luck to all!

Note: Please ensure you have not joined more than one Rotoworld PL Private League. If you know you have joined multiple leagues then now is the time to remove yourself from the additional league(s) to free up spaces for fantasy managers who weren't able to get a space. Once the Round 1 results are compiled next week it will be too late to enter so please do so ASAP if you know you are guilty. If any spaces become available I will make it known in the comments section below this post.
