AM's Week 22 Player Picks

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Firstly, you may or may not have read this post about the inaugural Rotoworld PL Cup. We filled six Yahoo private leagues which means 600 teams were set to form the basis of the competition, with prizes for the winner of the Cup, the runner up, the top score in each round and the winners of the leagues.

Since that sixth league was filled two days ago I have been bombarded with messages via Twitter, Facebook and email requesting I open a seventh league, so I have done so. Provided this league is filled by the deadline on Saturday I will be altering the competition schedule to account for 700 teams. The details to join this league are in this post - be quick.

Now it's no exaggeration to state that last Saturday was a complete a nightmare for my Yahoo Fantasy Premier League team. David Marshall, Kyle Walker, Roberto Soldado and Romelu Lukaku took up approximately £45million worth of funds but combined for a total of just TWO POINTS. I ended the day on a paltry 25 points from seven players, dropping over 500 spots to fall outside the top 1000.

Thankfully my dignity was restored on Sunday by Aleksandar Kolarov, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, with the trio pulling some big scores to drag that weekly total up to a more respectable 138. This was still below average for the week and left AM FC in 661st overall, losing significant ground on the teams above, so Week 22 must be better. Let's look at the fixtures ...

Week 22 Fixtures
Arsenal v Fulham
Chelsea v Man Utd
Crystal Palace v Stoke
Liverpool v Aston Villa
Man City v Cardiff City
Norwich v Hull City
Sunderland v Southampton
Swansea v Tottenham
West Brom v Everton
West Ham v Newcastle

This is one of the easiest weeks to decide on what direction to take with your team, as we have three very clear stand-out fixtures: Arsenal at home to Fulham, Liverpool at home to Aston Villa and Manchester City at home to Cardiff. Three teams in the top four of the Premier League at home against three teams in the bottom half of the Premier League. I expect all three to win by at least a couple of goals (probably more), and there is also a high possibility of clean sheets too, so you need to ensure you load up your Week 22 Yahoo team with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City players. Don't be shy - three players from each side is not overkill on this occasion.

The biggest fixture of the weekend is Chelsea v Manchester United and I expect Jose Mourinho's men to pick up the three points quite comfortably, so a Chelsea representative might not be a bad idea if you can afford someone like Eden Hazard. There could also be value in Southampton for their trip to Sunderland, Newcastle visiting West Ham and Everton at West Brom. However, I'll reiterate that the majority of your funds and spots should be taken up by players from the three teams with the stand-out fixtures.

Crystal Palace v Stoke, Norwich v Hull and Swansea v Tottenham could all end as low scoring draws so are probably best avoided for fantasy purposes.
