AM's Week 34 Player Picks

Thursday, April 10, 2014

Welcome to another edition of AM's Player Picks. It's good to be back after a couple of weeks off, and I'd like to thank Neal and Jeremy for covering Week 32 and Week 33 in my absence.

Let's begin with a reminder that Week 34 is the semi-final of the 2014 Rotoworld PL Cup where we cut the remain 202 teams down to 100 team ahead of the final in Week 37. Click here to check whether you're still in with a chance of Cup glory and good luck to all that remain.

The past few weeks have been decent for AM FC, particularly Week 33 which brought 120 points thanks to a strong showing from midfielders Lewis Holtby, Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and Christian Eriksen. I'm currently sitting in 740th position overall and hope to make a final push in the closing weeks of the season to finish in the top 500. This week in particular is a great opportunity to make such a move, and you'll see why when you look at the fixtures.

Week 34 Fixtures
Arsenal v West Ham
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa
Fulham v Norwich
Liverpool v Man City
Southampton v Cardiff City
Stoke v Newcastle
Sunderland v Everton
Swansea v Chelsea
West Brom v Tottenham
Everton v Crystal Palace
Man City v Sunderland

That's right, it's a double-week for four teams - Manchester City, Everton, Crystal Palace and Sunderland. It's also worth noting that Manchester United and Hull City don't play at all this week.

It's up to you how you approach this week. For me, at this stage of the season, discounts really aren't that important. There are just four weeks to go after this one, so I reckon long-term strategy can be thrown out of the window in favour of short-term gain, and this means I'll be dumping the majority of my discounts to fit as many double-gamers in my team as possible. Luis Suarez @ 19.00 will stay, but aside from him the aim is to squeeze in ten men who will play two matches.

From the double-gamers, Everton have the pick of the fixtures, away at struggling Sunderland before hosting Crystal Palace, and they should come away with six points to give themselves a phenomenal chance of stealing the final Champions League spot away from Arsenal. Next come Manchester City, who have THAT potential title-decider against Liverpool at Anfield, before facing the easiest fixture of the week, at home to Sunderland. Crystal Palace have a very winnable game at home Aston Villa - which could secure their place in the Premier League for another season - before that difficult trip to Goodison Park, while Sunderland have the aforementioned challenge of Everton and Manchester City, two matches they are likely to lose.

From the "single-gamers", Southampton stand out as the best option as they play at home to Cardiff, while Chelsea will fancy their chances at Swansea, and you would expect Arsenal to bounce back at home to West Ham. There may also be some value in Stoke players at home to Newcastle and Fulham players at home to Norwich, but your focus should be on getting as many Everton, Manchester City and Crystal Palace players in to your team as possible.
