AM's Perfect XI - Week 31

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Welcome to AM's Perfect XI - Week 31 player picks. This column focuses on Togga's Perfect XI game which you can play via their IOS and Android app. Download the apps via the link below and make sure you update regularly to take advantage of the constant enhancements:

Download the Togga app

Once downloaded, open the app and register an account. Once registered, click the Fantasy tab at the bottom of the app screen. Then from the Fantasy screen, click the arrow at the top of the app screen to select Perfect XI.

We've set up a Rotoworld PL Private League where you can challenge myself and the rest of the RW PL team over the course of the season. To join it download the app and then click the below link from your device, or find us from the Featured Leagues tab:

Each week I provide a Perfect XI of my own for the upcoming gameweek of Premier League fixtures, recommending 11 players to consider along with some honourable mentions for each position. The main 11 players listed won't necessarily be the exact players selected for my own Perfect XI fantasy side. The point of this column isn't to tell you exactly who to pick; it's to present some ideas to get you thinking. Hopefully you'll find the advice useful, whether you're playing Togga's game or looking at potential transfers for your official Fantasy Premier League team.

I've had a few decent weeks in a row and currently sit in 140th overall, so a Top 100 finish is back on the table.

We have a strange gameweek on our hands this weekend with only eight teams in action due to the FA Cup. All matches take place on Saturday afternoon, with the first three kicking-off at 3pm GMT. It's important to have your fantasy team locked in ready for the first games but remember in Perfect XI you can swap out a player from your squad right up to one minute before their match kicks off and bring in an alternative player whose match is also yet to kick off. This wonderful flexibility allows you to avoid the pain of a surprise benching or unreported last minute injury and a big fat ZERO. Just make sure you keep an eye on the starting line-ups as kick off approaches each week by following the Rotoworld PL Twitter account.

Here are your vastly reduced Week 31 fixtures:

Saturday 17 March
Bournemouth v West Brom
Huddersfield v Crystal Palace
Stoke v Everton
Liverpool v Watford

And the players ...

KEEPERS
Loris Karius - home to Watford. I'm backing Karius for a clean sheet.

Honourable Mentions:  Jordan Pickford away at Stoke, Jonas Lossl at home to Crystal Palace

DEFENDERS
Virgil van Dijk - home to Watford. VvD missed a glorious chance to get Liverpool back in the game at Old Trafford. Due a goal and should grab a clean sheet.
Ryan Shawcross - home to Everton. This game has 1-1 written all over it but Shawcross can return double-digits even when Stoke concede.
Nathan Ake - home to West Brom. I have a major hunch that Ake is going to pop up with a goal against the rock-bottom Baggies.
Leighton Baines - away at Stoke. Back in the team, back on set pieces in Gylfi's absence and back on penalties because Wayne Rooney is terrible.

Honourable Mentions: Chris Schindler at home to Crystal Palace , Patrick van Aanholt away at Huddersfield, Andrew Robertson at home to Watford

MIDFIELDERS
Sadio Mane - home to Watford. You need a Liverpool midfielder and Mane is really the only option. Showing signs of his best form in recent weeks.
Wilfried Zaha - away at Huddersfield. Palace's talisman returns from injury just in time for the run-in and will be doing everything he can to help steer his side away from relegation.
Xherdan Shaqiri - home to Everton. The one bright spot for Stoke this season has been the performances of Shaqiri, and like Zaha he's the key to keeping his club in the Premier League.
Junior Stanislas - home to West Brom. Given the opposition it's advisable to include a Bournemouth attacker in your PXI line-up and Stanislas feels like the sensible choice.

Honourable Mentions:  Luka Milivojevic away at Huddersfield, Alex Prichard at home to Crystal Palace, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at home to Watford

STRIKERS
Mohamed Salah - home to Watford. If you're asking why then this game is not for you.
Roberto Firmino - home to Watford. Doubling up on 'Pool strikers is the way to go given the lack of options elsewhere, but I've offered some alternatives below.

Honourable Mentions:  Callum Wilson at home to West Brom, Steve Mounie at home to Crystal Palace, Cenk Tosun away at Stoke
