Preseason Lottery Mock

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

How does someone create an NFL Draft order prior to a meaningful game being played? How about a weighted lottery, NBA style (credit Aaron Aloysius with the idea). I took last year’s first-round order and assigned odds to each via this site. Obviously this order is not possible, since an equal number of AFC and NFC teams must make the playoffs and Super Bowl, so do not take the order too seriously.

As I say every time, early mock drafts are used to draw attention to certain prospects who could emerge this season, not to try and accurately predict what will happen. We are always surprised by certain talents drastically changing their evaluations compared to preseason expectations (or perhaps someone finally noticed they can play). I really wouldn’t put too much stock in comments like “QB ___ was once considered a first-round prospect.” Many of those statements are made before actual grades are given, and even then understand evaluations can be fluid.

Before listing the lottery mock draft, I joined Kay Adams to discuss some top prospects heading into the 2013 season.
