“Hey, what ever happened to…”
Jason Dufner: Well, that was fun. He missed two putts on Friday inside of two feet and he missed the cut by a shot. Dufner ruined fantasy teams from coast to coast this week as his streak of 22 cuts-made came to an end. He didn’t play poorly as he fired 68-71 but he brought me exactly zero in one-and-done. He missed one cut last year. Now I know how that guy feels…
Nick Watney: After opening with 65, Watney fired rounds of 71-68-70 to finish T43. Hardly terrible. He’s made all three cuts and this was his first finish outside the top 13 in 2013. All systems go and no worries from my point of view.
Hunter Mahan: His four rounds in the 60’s were good enough for a T16 this week even though he only made three bogeys! He was T15 last week and T16 this week so he’s been steady to open shop on the mainland in 2013. No surprise here.
Bubba Watson: Watson fired a final round 64 to move up 20 spots on Sunday to check in at solo 15. After his WD in La Jolla gamers were worried about his fitness for this week. Watson showed that when he’s in the field, he’ll be of value and when he’s not feeling well, he won’t play. He’s played twice in 2013 and has finished T4 and 15th. Same as it ever was.
Rickie Fowler: Fowler and Dufner were the bookmakers’ joint favorites this week with Snedeker right behind them. After his superb recovery at Torrey Pines last week, he couldn’t keep the momentum going. It was weird to watch both of them play in the same group and miss chance after chance on Friday to make the cut. They both shot 68-71. They both had back-to-back top 10s entering the week. They both MC. That’s golf!
Charles Howell III: His streak of top 10s ends at three to open 2013 even though he had all four rounds in the 60’s this week. Charley Three Sticks finished T36 to make it 11 of 13 made-cuts at WMPO.
Nicolas Colsaerts: The big-hitting Belgian went 65-75 to MC in his second event on TOUR. He was T44 last week. The Ryder Cup was last September. Buyer beware.
Keegan Bradley: Ah, that’s a LITTLE better! After T49 and MC in his first two full-field events, T24 this week feels better for gamers but only “kind of”. Bradley opened 67-63 and was in the tournament before his Saturday round of 73 knocked him out of contention before his 68 on Sunday made for a respectable finish. He’s getting closer but he’s not giving the value you need from him for weekly games. Maybe having his hero win this week will inspire young Bradley!
Martin Kaymer: He should be fine down the road but he’ll be playing many courses for the first time in competition. MC this week after 73-69. I would use him in places where he’s had previous successes. Achtung!
