Our Picks: The FedEx St. Jude

Tuesday, June 03, 2014

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our group of fantasy staffers from Rotoworld.com. We’ll have all of our selections from the GolfChannel.com, Yahoo! Fantasy Golf plus my new expanded feature on my weekly selection for One-and-Done players.

FedEx St. Jude Classic

Glass ($14,097,613; Rank: 689)

@MikeGlasscott

Nothing like a MC as the result of a penalty shot for Justin Rose last week at Memorial. If that wasn't bad enough Dustin Johnson pulled his weight by making DOUBLE on the two final holes to drop four shots and a bunch of cash. The two old guys didn’t break into the top 25. #dumpsterfire

It happens.

It happened to ALL FOUR of us!

Take your medicine and move on.

This week I’m either dumb or stupid depending on which side of the aisle fits your view. I’m going right back with Johnson as his length and ball-striking should put him near the top in this thin field. Also, he hits greens from everywhere and has had success here before. Same goes for Ryan Palmer but he’s a better putter. I’m expecting Group 1 and 2 to carry the load this week as I’ve snuck in two, 40-something course horses again. David Toms is coming off T5 at Colonial and Robert Allenby hasn’t been playing poorly as of late. Allenby’s record at TPC Southwind is amazing considering what he hasn’t done on TOUR the last three years. Good luck to me!

Group 1: Dustin Johnson

Group 2: Ryan Palmer

Group 3: David Toms

Group 4: Robert Allenby

ANALYSIS:  After a solid week last week I’m going to try and push up the ladder with Rose and Dustin Johnson. I’ve gone with course-horse veterans in Groups 3 and 4 as I try to chase down and pass Ned. Sadly, Ned and I have the same team. See what happens when you are leading? You force others to make a move or match. I went chalk heavy and won't make up any ground this week.

Rob Bolton ($11,052,185; Rank: 6,999)

@RobBoltonGolf

Group 1: Dustin Johnson

Group 2: Webb Simpson

Group 3: David Toms

Group 4: Robert Allenby

ANALYSIS: The only one of the four to shun Ryan Palmer this week! HOW DARE YOU?!

Ryan O’ Sullivan ($13,695,688; Rank: 1,004)

@RyanGolfBlogger

Group 1: Dustin Johnson

Group 2: Ryan Palmer

Group 3: David Toms

Group 4: Robert Allenby

ANALYSIS: Well, that’s 15 of 16 picks that match this week as O, Ned and Glass all match. That’s bizarre at best. #allornothing

Ned Brown ($14,993,198; Rank: 290)

@Esoxgolf

Group 1: Dustin Johnson

Group 2: Ryan Palmer

Group 3: David Toms

Group 4: Robert Allenby

ANALYSIS: For the second time in three weeks, Ned and I share all four selections. Since we’re both in the top 700, I’m okay with this.
