Our Picks: The Open

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our group of fantasy staffers from Rotoworld.com. We’ll have all of our selections from the GolfChannel.com, Yahoo! Fantasy Golf plus my new expanded feature on my weekly selection for One-and-Done players.

143rd Open Championship

Glass ($15,889,974; Rank: 1,647)

@MikeGlasscott

I depended on 47-year-old Steve Stricker to make it stop last week. He began Sunday in solo second just one shot back. He completed Sunday T11, seven shots back. Either Zach Johnson (second) or Jordan Spieth (T7) would have completed a better pay day. Thanks to my one out of four (Kirk, Hurley III and Marino all MC), last week goes a MULLIGAN and doesn’t count.

It should.

I should be reminded of this TERRIBLE performance every day.

Whatever.

Group 1: Adam Scott

Group 2: Sergio Garcia

Group 3: Francesco Molinari

Group 4: Robert Karlsson

ANALYSIS:  It was a very tough call between Scott and Rose but I’m looking for a win this week and three in a row is unheard of at this level and that’s what Rose faces this week. Scott lives around playing majors and he’s been close here the last two years to say the least. Garcia is carrying that monkey on his back but I still prefer a premium ball-striker in this spot and that’s what I’ve got. Group 3, like Group C in Yahoo! has plenty of very solid options but I went with the Italian over my boy Billy Horschel. Robert Karlsson is on absolute fire recently so he makes any easy selection in Group 4.

Rob Bolton ($13,371,854; Rank: 7,538)

@RobBoltonGolf

Group 1: Adam Scott

Group 2: Martin Kaymer

Group 3: Angel Cabrera

Group 4: Robert Karlsson

ANALYSIS: No Justin Rose here either as Bolton saddles up world No. 1 Scott with major champions Kaymer and Cabrera. He brings Karlsson back to the fray after his T4 last week at Royal Aberdeen. I don't blame him and am on board as well!

Ryan O’ Sullivan ($16,172,940; Rank: 1,315)

@RyanGolfBlogger

Group 1: Henrik Stenson

Group 2: Dustin Johnson

Group 3: Angel Cabrera

Group 4: Danny Willett

ANALYSIS: O is rolling the dice with three big hitters and the very temperate Englishman Willett. He's the only one on Stenson this week so separation will occur if him or DJ has a big finish.

Ned Brown ($17,335,326; Rank: 489)

@Esoxgolf

Group 1: Adam Scott

Group 2: Martin Kaymer

Group 3: Angel Cabrera

Group 4: Danny Willett

ANALYSIS: It's not hard to see why Ned maintains his lead as his picks week after week are just absolutely solid. I love the fact that I am the only one of the three NOT on Cabrera this week but that could make it or break it! #drama
